This is a DP/Nicktoons fandom side blog (though as the nature of fixations go thats subject to change), I'll post original art by me, rb other fanworks, and maybe go on rambles about characters or worldbuilding

Sometimes I feel bad for coming onto this blog to rant about stuff that, in the wider scheme of things, does not matter-

Because like its healthy to have opinions on media, and to even rant about stupid fandom stuff without directly calling people out for it, but then I see other people take that a step further and just fully delude themselves in discourse to the point where they can no longer identify what a real problem is.

This is just to say that you should take everything on this blog with a grain of salt and not assume I dont have any irl issues too. I honestly prefer focusing on fictional stuff that doesnt impact my real life...because if I think way too much about the bigotry I face irl it really does a number on me. I think as long as you arent actually hurting anyone it really shouldn't matter if you like a fictional character or not- or whatever example is relevant.

Anyway the Trans!Danny headcanon is actually very easy to understand:

Danny Fenton is an unpopular kid who is antagonized for seemingly no reason (Assuming its because of his ghost hunter parents, though nobody ever directly comments on it, he seems like an average kid that no one understands otherwise). There is a part of him that he has to keep secret because literally EVERYONE including his own parents wants to hurt him for it. He has very little support aside from the few people who know of his secret, and not even they fully understand what he's going through.

Now am I describing your average transgender teenager in america, or am I describing a kid whos half dead?

Edit: I forgot to mention the fact that the only stable Danny clone Vlad managed to make just so happened to be female, while all the failures were male. Which im sure means nothing.

I'll be honest im not that invested in DP anymore, BUT I saw someone claim they were the first person who used the word "vivisection" in a fanfic as late as 2012 and I was instantly like

Bullshit??? Esp since they didnt provide the name of the fic or any identifying information.

So now I'm scrubbing through the depths of fanfic dot net (the oldest currently still up fanfic site I know of) to try to find an example older than that. I already found Lab Rat which even has its own TV Tropes page and dates all the way back to 2009 (unless thats the fic anon was referring to, but it would be weird to get the date of your own fic wrong), but I know a show thats been around since 2004 has gotta have fics older than that.

This is less me really caring about some rando potentially lying on the internet and more of just a curiosity glance of fandom culture- and I guess this is sorta a lost media hunt as well since im aware there was a BIG PURGE during the early fandom days- there might be sites even older than ffn that no longer exists.

This doesn't scratch the surface and may also not perfectly capture every type of rp community or setting- but ive been roleplaying since I was in middle school, so I stand by the majority of what I linked here.

Its up to you if you want to get in big open communities or if you want to be self indulgent with a friend- most of these are about wider communities so the point still stands,

Remember that Roleplay is Collaborative Story Telling and it has to be fun for everyone, because otherwise its fun for no one.

Since this has been getting notes, I wanna answer some things ive seen in the notes:

"What if I'm too anxious?"

I also have anxiety so I completely get it-- however I was also a very lonely child- and when it comes to doing anything with anxiety you unfortunately just have to brute force your way through social interactions no matter how much your brain is yelling at you. I recommend starting small with the circle you already have. If RP is something you really want to do despite the anxiety, then- just like with anything else- start off slow and take breaks if needed.

Also remember that RP may not be for everyone, so if the social aspect is a deal breaker then that is perfectly okay!

This also goes for those who may be asocial, apathetic, or generally just do not have a social circle they want to indulge with.

Fanfiction is also an option that doesn't require socializing with other people AND you have more narrative control over characters/settings/themes. If its purely for yourself, it can be as "bad" as you want it to be- nobody is gonna read it.

OVERALL just be patient with yourself because you know your own limitations better than a rando on the internet ever will.

Okay i reblogged this originally with just tags a while ago but thinking about it more and upon reviewing the comments/reblogs on this post i thought it would be nice to offer some more resources on where to to find roleplay partners as well!!

Unfortunately a lot of my go-to sites have shut down since the Golden Age of RP but there do still exist some good places to find partners!

RPNation

Probably the most prominent Roleplay site in modern day, this is a forum dedicated to the craft and a good resource for finding partners/groups or even hosting your own RP! They also have a small dedicated section for Offsite Roleplays!

Toyhou.se

While not my go to as its primary focus is character storage, Toyhouse has a very active forum community for both finding RP partners and entire sections dedicated to helping you develop good characters! Toyhou.se is invite only however invites are super easy to get by just asking around (or sniping one off the forum boards if ur quick enough)

CharacterHub

Another character storage site like Toyhouse, however i would compare it somewhat to Amino with its layout, they have chatrooms and social spaces you can use to advertise/look for RPs in!

Discord + Disboard

Discord is where a good majority of smaller RPs are hosted these days, i would recommend looking through Discord’s official public server search for dedicated RP or Art servers! If that doesnt suffice, there are also unofficial sites like Disboard where you can find more servers.

Please please PLEASE be cautious browsing discord servers, especially unofficial lists located on places like Disboard as not all servers are safe especially for minors.

Tumblr

Dont want to use a whole other site? Tumblr itself is also home to a decent community of roleplayers, though the blog format it is not my personal favorite RP style, if you are used to this site/dont like any of the other option this site is a great place to find partners!! You can even make a dedicated RP side blog and use that if you dont want to clog up your main blog with long stretches of text!!

I know theres many other options out there too but these are what id recommend!!

Right when the book came out, I saw some people in the tag complaining that they don't want Vlad to be any kind of parental/familial figure to Phantom and/or Dani because "he doesn't deserve it", or "they deserve better", or so and and so forth

But I think what this (very silly, comic relief) moment exists to point out is that he IS going to be really, really bad at this, but he IS trying, in his own misguided way

I can't imagine the Vlad we had by the show's end doing something so domestic as this, let alone openly seeking approval for it. He looks pathetic here because he IS. See how the mighty have fallen, etc.

But that's why it's so easy to picture him snarling and setting that apron on fire the moment Phantom hangs up on him—he has to KNOW he's screwing this up. He's not THAT oblivious. He gave himself a shining new purpose in life only to find he's as much of a failure as before, and that would get under his skin like nothing else

Maybe he'll blame Phantom for it at first, and they'll have a fight over it, because Vlad is still Vlad, and he's a petty egotistical jerk. But for his growth in AGiT to not be totally wasted by the narrative, he has to end up helping the kids in SOME way.

Personally I picture him working his way toward the epiphany that the cliche lasagna-flavored domesticity is NOT what these traumatized clone children want or need from him. (Which is why it's being used as an obvious joke in Fair Game. He's going about it all wrong—he's SO bad at this!) He'll have to actually TALK to them, and when they refuse his help he'll have to keep offering it anyway. Maybe the only thing of value he'll have to offer them at first is his cloning technology, to help stabilize Phantom's body or something, and that will be his foot in the door to actually building something resembling an amicable relationship with them.

Idk I just think people going, "Phantom and Dani shouldn't have to associate with Vlad, that's stupid and unfair" are being too hasty and too simplistic when we're clearly still at the very beginning of his learning-to-be-a-better-person arc. Does he "deserve" to have a family? No, dummy, obviously not. They DON'T owe him anything. But that's why him EARNING their trust back, little by little, through genuine reflection and effort, would be all the more satisfying.

I think its been long enough since its release to give a full "review" on it!

I really enjoyed it when it came out! It didnt feel as grand as AGIT, but it felt like an appropriate continuation, AND im glad theyre actually doing stuff with Dani now instead of forgetting she exists.

Im still rather iffy on modern tech being in the DP universe but thats more of a nickpick. I also REALLY liked Wulf and Lyca, its actually crazy seeing ANOTHER wolf ghost- im really hoping we get more gn-original ghost characters who aren't just like "human with green skin", really get creative with it yknow?

I'll probably have to reread it to remember the full plot beats, but I don't recall having any real issues with the story itself- and ofc I was here screaming and cheering for some MUCH needed Valerie and Danny closure.

Im not as interested in DP as I was back when agit came out, but ill still be keeping an eye out on the graphic novels because at least SOMEBODY is doing something with this franchise in a semi-canon sense.
