Throughout my years of high school I have learned a lot about who I really am as a person and photography has had a big part in this. Being in photography for 4 semesters, I have come very far in my artwork. If you told me in Digital Photo 1 that I’d be winning awards for my photos I would have thought you were crazy. Everything I have learned from taking these classes I will take with me to college. I am going to Illinois State University and I am majoring in history. I feel that the principles I learned in photography like being creative and tenacious will take me far in education. Thank you Ms. Lynn for you honesty and encouragement throughout my time in photography.

“Girls”

This photo is of a painting someone did on the streets of Pilsen. This photo caught my eye because of the long rectangular shape of it. It is very different from many of her other photos because of the color in it. I feel many of Jenny’s photos are in black and white or are neutral colors.

“Za”

This photo is of a pizza hat that has been flattened down and drenched in water. I found this hat in an alleyway among trash on the ground. I started by putting a texture overlay of vines on the photo. I feel this enhanced the photo by making the hat the main photos.

In my artwork I usually take photos of surreal landscapes. My concentration is following a path. When I take photos, I find that I wander a lot and that shows through my art. I think as an artist I have “followed” a path and come very far. I have really seen myself and art grow though these last few years of high school. One thing I do to my photos a lot is use blur effects, I like to blur parts of a photo so you can see the real focus of the photo. I think that this makes the photo look surreal. I usually use detail extractor too on my photos so you can see the detail better.

My primary college educational goal is to major in teaching and hopefully minor in photography. I plan on attending Illinois State University in the fall because they are known for teaching program. When I’m  there I plan on joining an art club and a track club. If I’m not to busy  I would like to get an on campus job.

When thinking of  what free hand means, I would define it as self expression.  The messy lines and smudges represent free hand because of how imperfect it is. To give the page this rough texture, I used chalk pastels. Overall, this was a great idea because of how vibrant the colors were and how well you could see the texture made. These photos are related because they both share the same pastel colors. The picture to your left would most likely be a background for a page and the photo on the right would be an inside cover possibly.

This is a photo of an egg found in the base of a tree. I chose to make this photo my mini because it was simple and there is not a ton of detail in it. This photo is also not very busy so, when made small you can concentrate on the egg in the photograph. I believe making the photo small was successful because of that reason.

"Paradise" I took this photo at sunset in South Carolina. What really caught my eye was how the sun hit the small palm trees and the clouds in the back. Something that was challenging about painting this photo was the trees. Because the trees are so small you can barely tell that I painted over them. It was also difficult to find a brush that would go well with certain textures in the photo. I definitely think that painting enhanced this photo because it added a lot of color and made the photo look more interesting.

"Left Behind" The photo on the left  is before I edited and the one to the right is after. I found this shed at an abandon  neighborhood in Riverside Illinois. What caught my eye was the red paint and how tarnished the shed looked. As you can see the photo on the right is much lighter because I fixed the levels on it. To enhance the marks on the shed I used detail extractor. I then went into Analog effects pro 2 and put a filter on the photo that gives it this faded look. Lastly, I added grain to the photo.

"Eye Of Gold" The first photo is before my manipulation and the second photo is after the manipulation. The first thing I did to this photo was use levels to lighten her face. I then fixed the impurities on her face, like the dark marks under her eyes.  To manipulate the colors in the photo I went into Analog effects pro 4 and used paper toner to get the b&W look. I then went into Analog effects pro 2 and put a filter on to get the golden part of the photo.  2/1/192 Photos - View album

"Fog of the Forest" Just like my sequence photo, the fairy tale I was trying to portray was little red riding hood. Taking this photo I wanted to take a subtle approach so what I was doing wasn't obvious or cliche. By looking at this you can assume that little red riding hood was frightened by the wolf and is now running to her grandmothers house. I'm not sure you would've gotten that if I didn't have the words.

"Riding Hood" The fairy tale I was trying to portray in my photos was the story of Little Red Riding Hood. I thought all these photos went well together because they really tell the story of what happens. To make these photos look good together I put a contrast filter on all of them and turned down the saturation, so the reds wouldn't be to bright. The contrast I added to these photos really enhanced the whole picture. The setting was perfect because the stories setting was in the woods.

“Side View”

"Home" The subject of this diptych are the lines running into the middle of the photo. I thought these two photo's went well together because of how they are both angled facing each other. Also how they both have a similar rectangle shape. To add another similarity between the two photos I made them black and white.

" Destruction" The subject of this photo is the building in the background. I made this photo black and white because I think it really makes you focus more on the ridges and details of the building. I also added detail extractor to enhance this. The mood of this photo has a darker feel because of all the broken things from the building. It makes you wonder what happened to the building and makes you ask why is looks the way it does.
