My husband said i should blog more because i have too many feelings for facebook.
But, he said it much nicer like, “you know you have a lot to say about art and popular culture and I notice that you hold back on facebook because you don’t feel comfortable, but you have a lot of valid points. You should blog about it, this way you can really get it out and maybe you’ll find the right audience for your thoughts.”
garden
My husband hung my wall flower boxes on our garage yesterday 5/26/16.
We planted four herbs (cilantro, basil, oregano, & parsley) and 2 lettuce things (like regular lettuce and spinach).
I’m writing this for posterity. maybe i’ll add a photo later.
I hope i grow some shit.
Lemonade thoughts
i watched it late, much later than everyone else. These are my preliminary thoughts. Lemonade is not about anger it is about resilience. That is why it is named Lemonade its about making lemonade from lemons (in the simplest way). and i say it’s not about anger knowing full and well the Anger track is like the best one.
This work is about Black Women and their want/desire/need to take care of their families. Keep their men, their children and their home. (sidebar: I remember reading about Catherine Beecher... I think, she’s Harriet Beecher Stowe’s sister she wrote a bunch about the home and domesticity being the woman’s in the most prideful way and then i realized that feminism wasn’t condemning a woman for loving and caring for her home but appreciate it’s rich history and importance). The Piece that Beyonce has constructed speaks so loudly about the most primal or core urges of a Black woman (or maybe just women) to keep her family together.
I love how she plays with the pronouns that refer to her during the Piece, You, Me, Her. never super sure which person she’s speaking on.
Daddies can be great fathers but they can still treat yo’ mama like shit. This hurts so much to look at. They can warn you about they own self.
Intuition - women's’ intuition so real and so supernatural.
Denial
Anger
Apathy
Emptiness
Accountability
Reformation - reminiscent of Lorna Simpson’s Water Bearer
Forgiveness

----- formation is not even for this album-----still love it-
Serena Williams’ appearance, her over sexualization too contrast how white America hates her for her Black body. Because of it’s abilities because they are afraid of it they say she looks like a man. huh. Show ‘em Serena.
Carrie Mae Weems & Lorna Simpson’s art all over this thing - but also why wouldn’t these look similar these are the same subject. Us.
This thing where the Black man talks about meeting the President “he’s from the hood just like me, he from Chiraq...” Obama is from Hawaii.
“Am I talking about your husband or your (F)father?” cried so hard. It’s like as a woman we are expected to treat your husband not as your partner but your parent. Break the cycle of pain. By the end of the album we see he learns (they learn) that he sees her as a partner and that’s how they can move forward.
my mother and a good friend of mine were having a conversation about how they were upset she is putting her business in the streets. First of all is this autobiographical or is this a super well constructed fiction. So relatable we can only say it is real so relatable to the Black woman’s experience it touches all of as the most real. This exactly what i wrote in that fucking thesis. Why are these pieces of Black female art so powerful and so successful? It is that we can connect to them, they connect to us all because of our intersection. This touches us all. Even if you ain’t been cheated on by the man you love most in this world you know it. You know it too well. You know it so well you will cry for 35 minutes of the 65. Like i was saying the women who are angriest are the women whose story this matches. The man you love the most in this world cheated on you and you saw it through all the way to the end till you all found some fucking redemption. You did it in all the parts of the fucking phases too (because a winner don’t quit on themself) because your family is the most important love in your life and “Nothing real can be threatened.”
The most prophetic words come from your grandma, not because she’s old or well-read but because she is you. With all your years already lived in her eyes, in words, in guidance.
This album made me feel so close to my husband... who has never cheated on me and we’ve never needed to heal but I do see that we are real and we can not be threatened and if you ever did become my torturer you’d also be my remedy. This sounds so sick to type. I just hope the cycle is broken and you do me better than the ones before me did to them.

Don’t scroll past this. Kylie Armstrong was diagnosed with breast cancer and these small dimples were the only signs. She posted the image on Facebook so everyone knows that “that breast cancer is not always a detectable lump.” Here’s how Kylie is doing today.
(If you’re not sure how to do a self breast exam, instructions can be found at BreastCancer.org.)
This could save a life!

White supremacists who assaulted this Black student at a Trump rally.
This cracker needs his ass whipped. Publicly. If that sister has ANY real Black men in her life they need to find this cowardly racist and hurt him real bad.
Please find him and ruin his life

Ruth C. Ellis was a black lesbian who in the 1930′s was making safe spaces for black LGBT+ people in Detroit. She was known for throwing good parties and taking in homeless LGBT+ people. She was 101 when she died. Please know of her existence.
The Ruth Ellis Center was established in 1999 to carry on her legacy of helping homeless youth in Detroit
it is tremendously freeing to realize that saying “I’m not informed enough about this issue to have a real opinion” is an option
