The Lord Commander III
The Lord Commander II
The Lord Commander I
Good morning.
you know what, fuck you
*unblues your amaurot*
for context, I made a tweet with this image and caption in 2023 and it somehow blew up to be my most liked tweet of that year
while many people are hoping Zenos Comes Back, and that is fine, i am personally hoping he stays dead but we get Azem Shard But Bad, an antagonist who will fully drive the connecting stake into the zenos/wol parallel. who are you but the decisions you make? when you are so powerful that you no longer answer to the systems humans live under -- when you have disconnected yourself and live separately from any specific world or culture or set of rules -- who do you become? the limitations of the influence of the Soul; at some point you have to take responsibility for your own actions. i know a lot of people are tired of azem/shards but i think this would be sooooo fun. heroism as a choice to be made over and over again, not something to be made once and coasted on, not an easy track that reinforces itself with its own momentum, not something to be inherited or predestined. pleeeaaase

lucretia, my reflection
My friend made this strategy board specifically for me and then shared it with me
i take my tomestone to ishgard and show it to a sickly brume child and i say theres this band called imagine dragons do u wanna listen and he stares shellshocked off into the distance and says i dont have to imagine them
Halmarut oshikatsu
literally nothing turns me into a middle ages noblewoman faster than getting rescued in a raid. even if i'm about to eat a vuln. even if i'm about to die. i go from 0 to UNHAND ME YOU KNAVE!!! GUARDS!!!! GUARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! instantly. Do Not Touch Me In The Video Game 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️👎👎👎🚫🚫🚫🛑🛑🛑
I don't think there's ever been a funnier piece of lore in a video game then the etymology of the word "gun" in FFXIV
@wibbley-wobble So in XIV lore there was a queen named Gunhilder who ruled a country that was conquered by the big bad guy nation, galemald, and she had a royal guard called “gunhilder’s blades” who fought with swords that had triggers on them and were used for channeling magic, and these were called gunblades after the royal guard, When garlemald conquered bozja they copied the design of their swords but garleans can’t use magic so to adopt their fighting style they switched to a mechanical design that used black powder. Later on firearms were developed off of this concept and since they were “gunblades without the blade” people started calling them guns.
masterpiece world building actually
you know what's even better? that lore is a magicalized remix of the word's irl etymology and i think that's brilliant
Oh. it’s just real. It was really that silly.
Seeing this going around again for the umpteenth time I’d like to reiterate that I know about the real world gunhilder and about allagan siege weapons. To me the funny part is that in eorzea, gunblades were invented before muskets
Given how many weird things in FFXIV are based on real world crazyness, I imagine the Gunhildr thing was intentional. The lore team are big nerds and do that all the time.
Except for cellphones being thousands of years old technology that nobody uses anymore. I think they did that one on their own.
I think it's because the lion furries are kinda the most normal thing going on here. Like, most of the time a character's race won't ever be mentioned by other characters unless it's relevant, and it's very rarely relevant. The mysterious hypercapitalist that actually isn't that evil and funds a lot of important stuff is a lawn gnome and everyone respects him, at least to his face. The Aztec king has three kids, of which two are different species from him (and each other) and the only one anybody says anything about is the trueborn because the king was supposedly sterile. All three kids have equal claim to the throne and no one ever questions that. There are multiple times that literal aliens from outer space come down and everybody is just like Oh hi, nice to meet you.
"Zenos MUST remain dead, or his narrative purpose gets reduced to a gimmick where he can't die--"
I understand where you are coming from. I do. However...
Good.
I would be happy to have his whole existence be reduced to, "He can't die." Because he would fucking hate that. He is bored with the world. He finds very little joy in it. He keeps trying to go out with a bang. And the fucking universe has the chance to go, "No."
Just, "No."
Y'see, the Warrior of Light doesn't get to get off this train. We don't get a vacation. Lahabrea smoked us and Hydaelyn said, "No." Zenos smoked us and Zenos said, "No." So why should Motherfucker Deluxe get a Get Out Of Responsibilities Free card? How come he gets to snooze prettily at the edge of creation while his dynamis affects the state of the cosmos and HIS FRIEND has to keep going like the fucking Energizer bunny to fix the issue THEY BOTH CAUSED by letting Fandaniel manipulate them into freeing and then killing the Load-Bearing Primals?
No. No, he should be made immortal by his own fucking around and finding out and I should be allowed to make him wallow in the monotony of saving the remainder of existence from imploding and resetting time to primordial soup era. ...Again.
To hell with the Integrity of storytelling. I want my revenge by boring him to death, multiple times, because he cannot fucking die. Give him the Voidsent treatment.
everytime i see any mentions of halmarut i always register it as armut (pear in turkish) so i drew her as one
didnt want to be annoying on that person's post but I wish we could explore all those Story Themes of dawntrail outside of pure inference and reading meaning into it. even like just a little. it is actually insane that we don't learn anything about zoraal ja and GJJ's relationship prior to OR EVEN REALLY AFTER zoraal ja committing fucking patricide? its so baffling and it genuinely makes me agree with the late 11th hour rewrite theories about why dawntrail is like that, like even an editing pass should have caught that
and GJJ being a shitty parent is fine to explain some of the weird story shit (like wuk lamat being ignorant of most turali culture despite living near them her whole life) but to be honest I need the story to actually explore that instead of using it as a post facto explanation you know?
im not disagreeing with the post necessarily because I think it has interesting ways to look at it but at best it seems like a coincidence that these plot elements lined up over any intention of the writing team
the zoraal ja thing is especially baffling in context of the story exploring his own (bad) relationship with his son. it's such a gimme character & story parallel that it's stunning it was completely absent lol
