...in my darkest moment the moon tells me a secret-- my confidant. "As full and bright as I am this light is not my own and a million light reflections pass over me."
Tool
sophistocrisy
[so-fis-TOK-ruh-see]
n. Sophism together with scorn for sophistry; the art of winning arguments without being right, combined with contempt for such a practice.
Sophistocrites are typically not aware of themselves as such, since this would require a level of hypocrisy too great for most human vessels to carry. Fortunately, many screening processes exist that can be very effective at identifying such individuals. One example is the following simple survey:
"Roughly how many times per month do you use the phrase 'cognitive dissonance'?"
If your answer is 2 or higher, you are likely a sophistocrite. If your answer was not a whole number, you may have further complications.
We have developed an insidious ability -- to take our country's highest achievements and make them our own, while simultaneously sloughing off its most egregious failings. We are united in our successes, but divided in our failures. This capacity to be selectively prideful is perhaps the most damning of any character trait I can imagine.
Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty only because there is ugliness. All can know good as good only because there is evil. Therefore having and not having arise together. Difficult and easy complement each other. Long and short contrast each other: High and low rest upon each other; Voice and sound harmonize each other; Front and back follow one another. Therefore the sage goes about doing nothing, teaching no-talking. The ten thousand things rise and fall without cease, Creating, yet not. Working, yet not taking credit. Work is done, then forgotten. Therefore it lasts forever.

adv. In a perversely introspective manner.
He paused to muse, rather introversely, about whether his latest blog post had really been true to his online persona.
Antonym: perspective.
