Merla smiled weakly, she hadn’t realized how much she had actually missed him. “I just need you, love” she whispered.
Despite of his concern for her, Gimli smiled. He pulled Merla close and kissed the crown of her head. “I’m right here,” he said.
Her smile widened a little, “That’s the only reason how I stayed alive” she murmured. She stayed in his arms for a while, “I don’t even deserve you” she whispered.
“Don’t say that!” Gimli insisted, “Don’t be so hard on yourself, love. I love you and that’s all that matters, right?” He kissed her forehead and smiled at her a bit sadly. “I very much missed you.”
Merla tried to smile but she couldn’t, “I suppose” she murmured. She felt tired but her duty wasn’t over yet. “I missed you too but I have to go back” she told him. She looked devastated by remembering that.
At this news, Gimli’s face fell. “No!” he cried, “Why do you have to leave again? You just returned!” He didn’t want her leaving again on some perilous quest. He didn’t know if his heart could take it.
A small smile played in her lips. “I have to deliver something and then never again going in a quest” she said. Her words were more of a promise rather than an explication. She was feeling a little better so she quickly kissed his lips. That definitely helped her mood.
It felt nice when she kissed him, so Gimli softly kissed her back. He was so happy to really, truly see her again and hold her close. He loved her and he never wanted to let her go if ever possible. “Do you promise to come back?” he asked, “I don’t think my heart can really take you leaving me without a promise of returning. I was so worried about you.”
Merla’s smile widened when he kissed back, “I hope you haven’t been practicing” she managed to tease. She was recovering herself which was good. She nodded, “And I will never leave you again love, never again” she promised. She felt that the stone she was carrying got heavier, “I don’t have much time” she told him.
Gimli smiled a bit at her joked. “But I don’t suppose you can tell me where you’re going or when you’ll be back, can you?”
Merla shook her head sadly, “I’ll be back in 3 days, that’s all I can tell you love” she said feeling heart broken. She didn’t want to go, but she had to.
He smiled a bit sadly again, nodding. At least he knew when she’d be back. Three days wasn’t so long of a wait. “When are you going?” he asked, “You’re still don’t look well. Can’t you wait to leave after you’ve rested?”
“No, the sooner I leave the better. What I have to deliver can’t wait” she said. Her blue eyes shone and her facial expression showed that she was worried.
Gimli couldn’t hide his disappointment. “Are you sure?” he asked, “You can’t stay for at least a few more hours?”
She got up, she had a determined expression in her face. She nodded, “No, I have to leave now. The longer I stay the worst” she told him.
Even though Gimli knew Merla was going to say that, her response still saddened him greatly. He sighed, then helped her steady herself. “I’ll be here when yoy come back,” he said with a reluctant smile, “Please be careful with whatever you’re doing.”
