online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.
and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.
there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.
i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

though every rat is special, it's a wonderful and unusual thing for their accomplishments to be remembered and cherished by so many people so many years later. we're all so fortunate to know about the rat who banged out the tunes!

Details in Matty's room:
We've got the boys' respective signatures on Charles' chalice and Matty's blanket <3
The laundry pile, featuring a mix of both Matty's and Charlie's clothes. They're the least tidy of the bunch in terms of clothing, and the fact that they effectively both share a room meant for one person doesn't really help.
It's not visible from the angle I drew, but Matthew also has a trunk like all the other guys' rooms do. It's by the door, always open and always piled with his and Charles' robes.
They don't know whose rosary that is. At this point it belongs to them both.
Other random bits and pieces:
- Charles' stuff isn't embroidered, but the blue blanket is his, as is the green pillow. Technically. He never uses it because Matthew hogs it and will actively steal it whenever he requires a pillow. He wants that one and he will have it.
- The flute on the bookshelf is Matthew's and he likes to try and mimick birdsong with it
- The sheets are draped that way to make the bed feel a bit more like a comfy cave and so there's no chance that whoever sleeps by the wall gets woken up by accidentally rolling up against the cold bricks
Details in Charlie's room:
Matty's pillow, left from the last time he actually slept in his own bed, and the suspiciously large amount of candle left because he barely lights them, given that he's never really in there. If they do sleep apart, they usually exchange pillows and or blankets.
Other random bits and pieces:
- The Greywolves use his room for storage more than anything else since they effectively both live in Matty's. The trunk in Charles' room is where their clean clothes go, and they mostly manage to stick with that system
Details in Roel's room:
Starting with the obvious, the bigass plaque on the wall. It's the Latin original of what the snake tells Eve in the garden of Eden, "You shall be as God and know good from evil"
In the same vein, the apple for obvious symbolism purposes and Roel's personal sheet embroidery referencing the Morning Star.
The monstrance/crozier (I'm not sure tbh) was honestly a coincidence - I probably subconsciously remembered its presence in one of their photoshoots but I honestly just wanted Roel to have an accessory and that was the first thing I could think of lol
The Leviathan cross being on the wall while the actual one is left on the shelf is just another detail to hammer home that Roel's loyalties lie with the Morning Star, but he can't shake the influence of god either. He's a bit caught in the middle basically.
Part of the candle stash. There's more under his bed.
This is Falk's. Roel is perfectly aware of this, but he's not about to go out of his way to bring it to him. If Falk wants it back, he'll have to come and get it himself.
Other random bits and pieces:
- There's two blankets on the bed and one on his desk chair because yknow. His ideal temperature is way above that of a wolf or a vampire. There are even more blankets in his trunk. He actually owns one robe made of pure wool that he stores in there in the summer, but as of right now he's wearing it to stay warm.
Details in Attila's room:
Let's start with the three things he will murder you for so much as looking at wrong: his wife's wedding dress, the locket with a lock of her hair in it and a drawing she made that he still keeps around. She didn't die tragically or anything, but while he isn't unkillable, unless you put some real effort into it he's functionally immortal. She wasn't.
You can probably survive looking at these two, but he's gonna be cagey about it: behind the curtain is a portrait of his family from when he was still just a regular boring dude. He commissioned a painter for it, but all the poor guy had to go on was Attila's descriptions, so it's not quite right, hence why it's a bit of a bittersweet thing for him to look at.
The other thing is the pillow. One's got his initial, one has hers.
Vargamor's portrait - why's it down there? Because he meant to put it up, but he just hasn't gotten around to it. He's got some complicated feelings towards her, but he knows better than to be openly defiant.
Attila's chalice, and Matthew's on the floor. Matthew and Charles will both go and keep Attila company if he shuts himself into his room, but Matty has developed the tactic of strategically leaving things in there so that he has a reason to come in and do a quick check on the eldest wolf, even if he doesn't want company at the time.
Other random bits and pieces:
- He has the most lavish blanket because he used to keep himself busy by embroidering it when he had a phase of not leaving his room
- He sneaks his books into Charles' room because he doesn't have his own shelf, but he doesn't like leaving them in heaps on the floor or taking up space on the desk
Details in Falk's room:
Portrait of his Saint, as one would expect
This is a melițoi, a tool to soften flax by way of breaking the dried plants. According to the wikipedia article on Strigoi, in some folklore they're essentially normal people all day every day EXCEPT on the night of Nov. 30th, where they take that there household tool and go out to fight each other to the death with it. In the morning they can't remember anything, so these tools would be hidden before that one night of the year to prevent Strigoi from taking them and killing each other with them.
I just thought that was really funny and Falk should definitely have one of these.
His initials embroidered into his blanket. He doesn't need one, really, but he likes having it anyway. Mostly if he goes to sleep, it goes on the pile of other blankets and pillows in the corner that Attila likes to get cozy in when he hangs out.
The blue pillow actually belongs with Charles' blanket, and the green blanket goes with the pillow that Matthew always steals. They initially ended up in Attila's room during one of his hiding spells, after which he dragged them down to Falk's room so he'd have a comfy place down there. It was meant to be temporary, but the Greywolves haven't demanded them back, Attila likes his little nest and Falk doesn't mind. So they're just down there now.
Door into the rest of the basement. The curtain was meant to cover it up just to make the room more homely, but given that he already can't see much of the room from his sleeping place in the coffin, he likes to keep it visible at least a little. Just for peace of mind, really. Nobody goes back there, and if they do, they have to go through Falk's entire room anyway.
Attila. And a bunch of bloody handkerchiefs.
According to some folklore, Strigoi drink their victims' blood straight from the heart. I'll leave it up to you to decide whether or not Falk is one of them, but he always makes sure to clean up after himself once he's done feeding :)
Other random bits and pieces:
- Falk actually has the biggest room out of all of them but nobody else wanted to live in the basement just for that slight advantage.
- Most of the stuff in there is fairly new, by the standards of someone who's centuries old. Even the coffin isn't technically his own in the sense that it's not his original one. The wolves got it for him so he has a place to sleep.
He's the only one not on the main floor, instead he lives in the basement. That's also what that mysterious door is, it's just the rest of the basement under the church. They mainly use it for storage.
Attila is the only one who somewhat regularly hangs out down there since they've known each other the longest and he's by far the most willing to voluntarily donate his blood if Falk can't or simply doesn't want to go out to feed.
He's got a love-hate relationship with it. Sometimes he'll hate to set foot in it, other times it's hard to get him to leave it at all. Usually it helps if one or both of the other wolves just sit with him in silence for a while, or else he goes down into the basement where Falk lives.
Whatever you do though, do not. Touch anything in there without asking first. He's got some very specific sentimental items and he will go ballistic on you if you so much as think to lay a finger on them.
