summer readings and musings
Second post in 1 day:
Y’all, the struggle is real in USA for healthcare. I was at my job (as a substance abuse counselor) ✨ for FIVE YEARS. I love that job. I plan to go back in a couple years. However, my husband and I decided what is best for our family at this time is for me to stay home with our baby.
I’ve had a shared insurance plan through my work for 5 years. We planned on adding me to my husband’s crummy insurance (he works at a school), however for both of us and the baby, it would be $900 A MONTH. That’s more than our mortgage (we live in Ohio). So a few of us spent the past 2 days contacting all sorts of shared plans and other options to put me on. HOWEVER, 90% of the plans flat out won’t accept me, and the other 10% will, but they won’t cover anything towards my treatment for the next 12 months. Deductibles range from $1,000-12,000 a year (for non USA citizens, that means we have to pay that amount out of pocket before insurance helps us..).
Healthcare in the states is SUCH a scam. The hospital systems intentionally over charge you. I send every single bill to insurance. For example, I owed $13,000 to a hospital for a couple things this past year. My insurance looked it over and they say I only owe about $5,000 and the rest over small charges the hospital tried to add to spike my cost up
Honestly, my family is more on the conservative side with most things, but healthcare is not one of them. It’s absolutely sickening how our whole country is in cahoots to make the middle class pay out the butt for healthcare. Our lower class pays little to nothing, and our taxes help that happen, but we get nothing in return.
I’ve spent my entire life being gaslit by healthy people regarding my Ehlers Danlos.
Here’s a new one- a bunch of random internet people started cyber bullying me because I said I was allergic to something (which is in a lot of stuff)- literally calling me uneducated and an idiot for saying I’m allergic, and it’s impossible to be allergic. One person even called me a wh***????
Like? I didn’t know people I’ve never met would be SO but hurt about MY allergy?? It has no impact on their lives.
Also after being gaslit, I started researching to make sure my doctors haven’t been crazy my whole life, and it is an allergen? I’m not sure why everyone was so up in arms about it. There’s plenty of scientific studies showing people ARE allergic and some people even sustain liver damage.
Also there are people allergic to crazy things like water and the sun? Why is my allergy so unbelievable?
I’m not sharing what it is here because I’m not about to be gaslit on Tumblr too. I just needed to vent 😔
Sounds about right 🤣
