I do not like to label myself. I believe that they do nothing but confuse, so let me approach this in a different way.
I am a human. My biology is not relevant to this thread, and my pronouns have no correlation to it (as it should be). I use he/ze/xe/they online and when I make art in general. I love other humans around my age group.

This is a kind of mini-masterpost of all my big headcanons and speculative anatomy in relation to Lankmann. Heās an odd fellow and heās built kind of strange so Iāve come up with my own ideas on how he works and why he is the way he is. When I have big conversations about Lankmann I usually end up referencing these without much explanation so this can be used as a sort of glossary when Iām yapping about him.

BASIC HCs:
Full Name: Dr. Herbert Augustus Lankmann.Ā The middle name āAugustusā was something I came up with myself. Itās very Victorian and of German origin so I thought itād fit him. Probably his grandfatherās name or something. HeāsĀ veryĀ German, likely stemming from the āGerman doctorā stereotype and his namesake, Herbert West (from Reanimator). Cool thing is that his first name literally translates to ābright armyā (or, interpreted differently, āsoldier of lightā) which I think is interesting given his role as essentially the front-lines against the Veldigun. āLankmannā doesnāt mean much of anything outside of ātall man,ā and the suffix ā-mannā only sometimes means āman.ā It also means āhusbandā depending on context. Clearly Lankmann didnāt get the ātallā part of his name.
Height: 5ā5ā before Veldigun sickness, 6ā3ā after.Ā Sometimes I draw him tall, sometimes I draw him short. I think itād be funny if after getting Veldigun sickness and essentially turning into a sentient mechanical scarecrow, he made himself taller (or got whoever was rebuilding him to make him taller). That or he really does wear heels/lifts. That clicking of his shoes in In Loving Memory is unmistakably heels and Iāll fight on that. /lh
Age: 55 (as of 1996).Ā 1996 is the latest date we get so far in DOAI, so I decided to ball his age around there as for a while I thought it could indicate thatās where the main story ends. Starts in ā86, ends in ā96. Nice and neat. 55 suits him; I canāt see him as anything over 60 but itās kind of absurd when people put him at under 40, and even then I squint when heās depicted as anything under 45. I swear on my life I heard someone say heās 35 once. (And, like, if youāre gonna say youāre a Lankmann enjoyer and then put him at under 40, youāre not playing ball. He is upper middle-age š)
Birthday: April 13th, 1941.Ā I think itād be fun if his birthday was the same day Volume 1 came out. This makes him an Aries. Using his headcanon age in 1996 as a reference, itād put him as a ā41 baby. Heās not even a Boomer, heās from the generationĀ beforeĀ by a solid 5 years. Heās from the Silent Generation. Old man. This also makes him born smack dab in the middle of World War II.
Gender: Cis male,Ā BUT only because he doesnāt know what a ānonbinaryā is. If he had any deeper knowledge of gender heād probably be an agender he/it/they.
Sexuality: Asexual demiromantic.Ā He doesnāt have a gender preference and very rarely feels genuine attraction towards people. Sex-repulsed due to a mixture of disinterest and Catholic guilt but weāll get into that later. At first he took his lack of attraction in a holier-than-thou way and believed himself to be āunaffected by temptationā but then he realized that Wasnāt Normal and had a crisis about it.
Religious Affiliation: Atheist.Ā Doesnāt believe in God, and even when he did, God never helped him. He was raised Catholic and hated every minute of it. Stopped going to church in college and silently severed himself from religion. He does still have an old rosary tucked in the back of his closet, but thatās only because it belonged to his father. You can fit so much religious guilt in this old man itās actually absurd.
Neurodivergence:Ā Autism.Ā Heās so obviously autistic-coded that I could write an entire college thesis on it. Incredibly blunt, equally intelligent, absurdly organized and timely. Very easily irritated by inconveniences or shifts in schedule. Overwhelmed by many people, averse to physical touch even as a child, and didnāt start to speak until about 2 years old. When he does speak, heās articulate and precise and knows an insane amount of words, but also enters periods of complete silence and usually only gestures or hums in irritation if someone insists on talking to him. HATES crowds and people talking over each other. He also has a specific parking spot thatās āhisā and feels slighted when someone else uses it. Sometimes his autistic traits can read as narcissism but itās mostly just him stating what he believes to be fact; that heās smarter and simplyĀ betterĀ than the average person. He expects special treatment because he feels like heās earned it, and sees people treating him as an equal (in his eyes, lesser) as a threat or injustice.
Nationality: German.Ā His parents emigrated to Canada during WWII, and he has dual Canadian-German citizenship. Thanks to being a WWII baby heās always had a rocky relationship with his nationality, but itās gotten better with time. German was also his first language, but he lost his German accent both from being around Canadians all his life and purposefully suppressing it. His voice is vaguely British-sounding because it was an easier accent to mask his original with. Sometimes the German accent slips when heās especially upset, and when heās frustrated/thinking really hard he might mutter in German.
OTHER HCs:
He went to Harvard and has two degrees,Ā a PhD in Neuroscience and a Masters in Clinical Psychology. Neurologyās been his special interest since he was young; heās always been fascinated with the brain and human behavior. While getting these degrees he actually moved to the States for a while in Cambridge. His father was reputable (and rich) enough that he got in pretty easy, not to mention his GPA and insane SAT/ACT scores. The Neuroscience PhD was to get him into the field and working, the Clinical Psychology was half for fun and half because he wanted toĀ seeĀ people and their mindās in action.
Heās a Vietnam veteran.Ā While he was living in the States, he got drafted (he was 28 at the time). Heād pretty much just finished getting his first degree and within a few months was pulling bullets out of people and stitching up wounds in the middle of the forest. Solidly the worst time of his lifeā Veldigun sickness was a close second. It contributed to how jaded he is and also let him amass plenty of medical experience, especially under pressure. He may be unethical as hell, but he can ration supplies like a champ. Unfortunately it also gave him PTSD.
Speaking of PTSD,Ā popping noises and fireworks scare the shit out of him.Ā It could be a car backfiring in the parking lot, it could be New Years or Fourth of July. It could be anything. It will make him flinch and he will go quiet for the next few hours. Heās seen and heard far too much.
He doesnāt curse unless heās pissed.Ā Heās overly formal in most situations, very proper and precise with his verbiage. Unnecessary profanity, to him, is crass and makes one sound less intelligent. When heās slightly irritated or inconvenienced, or like, stubs his toe or something, he may throw out a ādamnā or āgod dammit,ā but heĀ very rarelyĀ genuinely swears. āFuckā is a sign to run. If he starts swearing in German? Pray. Itās all you can do.
He has some small ophidian mannerisms.Ā Snakes were one of the inspirations for Lankmann, or at the very least for ARG Lankmann (I believe this was stated in a stream somewhere), which Iāve transposed onto his canon version. He draws out his āSā sounds for a little too long. Sometimes he makes hiss-ish sounds when heās irritated in place of a grumble or hum, like machinery expelling steam. When he feels threatened or otherwise nervous he kind of curls in on himself. And, of course, his new mechanical eyes allow him to see in new light spectrums, namely infraredā essentially, he can detect people via heat signatures, and can also see in the dark.
He has body dysmorphia.Ā His entire physical appearance was essentially stripped from him, and part of his identity along with it. He doesnāt recognize himself in mirrors. He acts indifferent to his appearance, but it bothers him far more than heād admit.
SPECULATIVE ANATOMY:
When I say āspeculative anatomy,ā Iām referring to Lankmann post-Veldigun sickness, in his fully mechanical form. This is essentially trying to figure out how he works in such a weird body. Dissecting him, if you will.
He canāt eat,Ā as he doesnāt have a stomach (as seen in concept art). Presumably, then, he gets energy from other sources. He likely has to charge his body in one way or another; I think plugging himself into a wall occasionally is funny, so thatās what I go with. Just a socket in the back of his neck. It directly connects to his spinal cord and nervous system, thus charging it.
He has hearing problems,Ā as his ear canals closed due to Veldigun sickness. They had to be manually repaired, but the damage was done. Part of the reason he keeps the asylum so quiet is because if it was too loud, heād literally be unable to hear people talking to him. Cannot hear for SHIT.
However, his vision is absurdly goodĀ thanks to his eyes being screens now. Heās got all the bells and whistles; of course infrared sensors as mentioned previously, but he can also sense very slight movements that he previously didnāt pick up on. He can also lowkey flash-bang you because they dim/brighten both manually and involuntarily. His eyes tend to be dimmer when heās down or tired, and brighter when heās excited or energized.
He physically canāt cry.Ā His tear ducts closed due to Veldigun sickness. When he ācries,ā itās all hiccups and shivering, with no actual tears. I think if he cried hard enough it could tear the ducts back open and heād end up crying blood, though thatās a severe situation.
He doesnāt have a tongue either,Ā and his jaw barely moves. Most of the āwordsā he says are his voicebox attempting to stitch together assumptions of words based on the movements of his throat. As a result, he talks somewhat slowly so that it interprets his words correctly.
The only organs he has left are his heart and lungs,Ā which are both transplanted. His body upon developing Veldigun sickness was barely salvageable. His brain is remarkably intact, but itās a miracle he didnāt lose that or become braindead. Everything else was either scrapped or replaced by an artificial alternative.

The artwork is very, very cool, but please do not cause Sadie to end the world over it. She can get very emotional over gifts, and it takes a pain for her mother to recreate mortal existence.
I've seen a lot of people have the head-canon that William Lewis (yes, that is his actual name; I know you all mix them around) is related to Alex in the form of a younger brother.
After observing this trend for a while, I figured I should throw my own hat in the ring and try the idea out, in my own way, I guess.
That's why I've written a little one shot fic about it. Go read it!

talking about an old au I had for DOAI (copy and pasted off of my magma rant with catroutfish and corrupted)
āI remember I had this old au called Section 130(1) I just never talked about and scrapped because the concept of Clyde wearing people's skin eventually got taken. this au was Officer Kruger and Klaus focused
For the Section 130(1) au, basically follows Kruger trying to do what he can and protect the people he cares about because he not only feels guilty on the original kids being missing, but the families he was FRIENDS with start disappearing too. And in his pursuit of trying to stop whatever it is, it finds him, breaks into his house, and attacks him
so Clyde is attacking Kruger, Klaus comes home, Freaks out before getting attacked too. eventually Clyde just yoinks Kruger's body and Klaus gets admitted to the Asylum to be treated
And the foundation comes up with a halfassed excuse and says Kruger killed himself and they try convincing Klaus what he saw wasn't real.
(Also note, Klaus was nearing 18 when this happened)
And Clyde, seeing how Kruger was close to all of these family members and townspeople, decide to use his skin to lure more people. Like how he did with Sammy
Klaus eventually runs out of the foundation after 2-3 years (so almost 20/21), and Klaus has like, gone bonkers. Clyde sees this and goes, you know what would be really funny? What if I make this kid go extra bonkers
and Clyde starts using Kruger's image to drive Klaus further down his spiral all for the sake of chaos, which eventually leads to the Klaus we know, the serial killer.
For years he was being told that his father was dead and that he killed himself and his constant insistence that he was attacked morphed to hes still alive, so seeing Kruger(Clyde) basically feeds into his delusions
His dad's here! He's okay! I know my father, and I know his sense of justice more than anyone. If he believes it to be right then it is!
also if you want extra angst you can add Kruger still being conscious in his body being forced to watch as the monster he tried to stop shape his son into a monster himself.
and that's like, the jist of it
also the name, Section 130(1) comes from like the Canadian criminal code where someone falsely presents themself as an officer(Edit:Not exactly but the theme is there)ā
