The cool breeze from the air conditioner that was placed above the cafe door immediately hit your face as soon as you opened the cafe door along with the sounds of the cafe visitors who looked a bit crowded this afternoon. The familiar smell of coffee greeted your nose, made you smile briefly. The walls of this cafe were soundproof, so you didn't know how noisy the sound was inside the cafe. You adjusted your sling bag on your shoulder then walked towards the bar.
You just came back from your work. Your boss had given you a headache today, giving you a bunch of tasks for you to work on. Because of this, you decided to stop by at this newly opened cafe. After all, you were a bit curious about this cafe, which was quickly becoming popular even though it only opened about a week ago.
The wood was cold in the palm of your hand as you placed it lightly on the end of the bar table. Your hand moved along the wooden table as you walked towards the ordering table. A certain coffee that always managed to cheer you up on a rough day like today was already in your head. You stopped right in front of the table section with the sign "order here" hanging from the ceiling right on the table.
You put your hands on the table and leaned against it, waiting for an employee to take your order while opening your phone even though all you did was scroll through your home screen. At least it could make you look a little busy and it was better than standing awkward there without doing anything
"Good afternoon, welcome to PT Cafe, can I take your order?" That cheerful voice made you immediately raise your gaze from your phone. A blond haired man with bright green eyes coupled with that big smile. That smile indirectly invited your lips to join in forming a smile, a thin smile, then you noticed something flickering in his eyes.
"Ah, yes, good afternoon ...." You turned your eyes to the name tag on the apron he was wearing, reading the name written on it, "... Shalnark. Can I order americano in medium size?" You named your order while handing over the amount of money that you had prepared earlier, trying to make your voice as friendly as possible even though there were still a slight of gloom in your tone.
There was a brief pause between you before the boy's smile widened slightly. "Of course you can! But, may I give you a little advice?" He answered in an extremely cheerful tone. You raised an eyebrow as you watched him imitate your stance, leaning against the table with both hands joined together on the table.
"Yes? What's the advice?" You asked awkwardly. Shalnark looked to his left and right to check his surroundings, before gesturing you to get a little closer to him with his index finger. Of course you stayed still in your position, too reluctant to get any closer to Shalnark. He also didn't seem to mind your subtle refusal and instead leaning further towards you.
"Something lighter is more suited to make your day better. I have a great deal for this cute girl who just had a bad day." He winked at you, obviously flirting with you. This man indeed had an attractive appearance, with his well-trained body underneath his staff uniform. But his flirtings didn't have the slightest effect on you. "So today, we have a discount for a cup of matcha but I haven't put the announcement on the board even though my boss have told me million times to do it." He chuckled a bit, his laugh was unbearably beautiful you admit. "Isn't being the first customer to receive such a special discount feels a little… I don't know, special? No?" He continued as he slightly changed his position. He rested his right hand on his right cheek, staring at you with a gaze that you couldn't understand. You didn't know, the gaze he gave you were undoubtedly cheerful, but there was something else behind that cheerfulness. You couldn't name it, but you were sure it was something dark.
Realizing that you had to answer the man's offering, you snapped from your thoughts and shook your head with a smile. "No, thanks for the offer, but it's still americano."
His smile faded a little, although people would still think it's a big smile. "Of course of course, a medium cup of americano, can I have your number?" He asked while tapping the screen in front of him, his eyes occasionally turned towards you.
You leaned away from the bar, throwing Shalnark a strange look. "Number? Shouldn't you just be asking for names?" You asked with a thick tone of doubt.
Shalnark laughed, sounded slightly mocking in your ear and to be honest, you were starting to get uncomfortable with how this supposedly professional guy had been treating you. "I was flirting with you stupid, or are you just acting oblivious? Nevermind, so what's your number?" The way he said it with a cheerful smile of himself made you shiver and you scratched your nape awkwardly, avoiding the eye contact for a few seconds.
"I ... already have a boyfriend, sorry." Unfortunately, you missed the change in gaze he threw at you, but when you made eye contact with him again, he was already smiling broadly again while nodding his head.
"All right, so ... your name?"
"_______."
"Okay miss customer, please wait for your americano in a few more minutes, and I'll call your name when it's done!" Man, will I see him again later when I get my coffee? You thought to yourself but all that came out of your mouth was a small yes. Shalnark gave you his last smile before walking away from you, and you hadn't realized you'd been holding your breath. You took a deep breath, then walked to an empty chair.
The beam of light from the cafe lights suddenly dimmed along with a pair of shoes in front of you. "Miss _____? Here's your americano." You froze in place, clearly recognizing the owner of that cheerful voice even though you just met him 15 minutes ago. You looked up then threw a forced smile at him as you stood up, slightly patting your skirt.
"Thanks Shalnark." You dared not to say anything other than that and took your cup from his hand.
"Of course, it's nothing! I- oh!" Shalnark suddenly knelt in front of you, then grabbed something between your feet Feeling a little awkward, you took a step back, and noticed that Shalnark was just picking up your dropped wallet. Since when was your wallet there? You never seemed to drop it, however, you still had to thank him because you could had just left it there without realizing you'd lost your wallet.
"Oh dear, thanks." You said, looking up at Shalnark who was standing straight again. Shalnark just gave you his usual big smile that you somehow had gotten used to, then he lightly patted your shoulder.
"No biggie. Enjoy your coffee, I hope we meet again later. Of course after you've broken up with your boyfriend." He said with laughter between them, and you could only laugh awkwardly along with him. Shalnark observed you as if trying to memorize your appearance in his head before smiling faintly. "I was just kidding. Good afternoon, _____."
"Yeah, good afternoon." You answered briefly then held tightly to your sling bag strap. You made a mental note not to come back to this cafe no matter what, and were too busy with your mind to not notice that one of the other employees there was staring at you with a slightest pity on his face
Shalnark who was still eyeing your figure turned right after exiting the cafe door flinched when someone tapped him on the shoulder. He immediately looked behind him, and found Nobunaga who was still staring at you from the cafe window, watching you as you sipped your americano.
"You put a tracker in her wallet, right?" Nobunaga asked in a slightly lowered voice, then followed Shalnark who walked back to his work area.
Shalnark paused for a moment before laughing, "What do you mean Nobu? Of course not!" Shalnark replied while shaking his head a few times.
Nobunaga only hummed in disbelief. "Don't fucking lie, I saw it. Did that woman catch your eye?" Nobunaga asked half curiously.
"Ah, looks like I've been caught red handed." A chuckle came out from Shalnark's lips without any hint of guilt in there. "Yes, she did catch my eye, but I won't be playing with her anytime soon. There is one pest I must get rid of before playing with her."

With a content sigh, you lowered yourself into the steaming bath.
Your tense back eased in the boiled water, tight limbs relaxing and becoming loose with every given second. It had been a productive day; from traveling to a village located on the far east coast of your home to trade for rare enchantments, to completing the final exterior of your farm, you felt the need to reward yourself with a heated bath. While it had taken time to hand heat each cauldron of water and transfer it to the tub, the ends were justifiable as you lowered yourself further to embrace the stinging warmth.
Head tilted back with eyes closed, the water met your grimy hair and soothed each strand, practically massaging your tender scalp. You welcomed the feeling with a groan, embracing yourself under the water surface to gather more warmth as if it were possible.
As you reached over the table behind you for the essential oils you recently traded, the rattle of your locked front door echoed throughout your house before strong banging replaced the sound. Opening your eyes slowly, you paused to think to yourself. No one should be here.
