now that he publicized ** *** on main I just really want to say that I truly believe that jaboukie is a future EGOT winner.
hope as a discipline has a heavy, dark depth to it. it feels like bungee jumping to the bottom of it all and coming face-to-face with what the other side looks like. but the struggle of it all means not giving in to it (and in my case it’s self-isolation, etc) and that’s hard work. at least i can fight for myself to not end up like the people who hurt me.
that time kids poured so many buckets of water at me at while we played in the fire hydrant in the street and the way I was literally drowning while my feet were still touching concrete. couldn’t move. I think that’s what swallowing sadness feels like.
the staring in disbelief that someone could be so cruel yep the way the seconds passed so slowly yep
Honestly, people generally don't want much... They want to eat their favorite food. They want to go to the seaside and smell the fresh air. They want to nap on the grass and listen to music. They want to hold their loved ones in their arms, and be held in return. They want warm clothes, be occupied with a profession/a hobby that does not smother them. They want to feel safe and unafraid. Mostly, they want to live without being ridiculed, manipulated or being forced. And this is why capitalism/modern life overall is so upsetting, depressing and even destructive. Because thinking about how small and simple things you yearn for & how hard it is to even be able to have them really wears you off

“And putting yourself on the line is like killing a piece of yourself, in the sense that you have to kill, end, destroy something familiar and dependable, so that something new can come in ourselves, in our world.”

i cant think of the fact that humans send messages saying ’where are you? who are you?’ from earth to the giant and empty space all around us for too long because it makes me cry so hard and feel so human and lonely
things that humans have sent to space as a friendly gesture that make me cry my eyes out:
- whale songs
- sounds of footsteps, laughter and a kiss
- an hour-long recording of the brainwaves of someone who was, among other thoughts, thinking about what it is like to fall in love
- an illustration of two people holding hands
- so many sentences in almost 60 languages, including these: ’Friends of space, how are you all? Have you eaten yet? Come visit us if you have time.’ ’Greetings from a computer programmer in a small university town on planet Earth.’ ’Are you well?’ ’We are happy here and you be happy there.’ ’How's everyone? We all very much wish to meet you, if you're free please come and visit.’ ’Wishing you happiness, health and many years.’ ’Welcome home. It is a pleasure to receive you.’

[id: a set of illustrations of a pair of hands doing the “here is the church/here is the steeple/open the doors/and see all the people” motions. “i worshipped her in church,” reads text written on the hands, “and god loved it. he made light so that i could see her face.” /end id.]
sitting in the little golden patch of sunlight on my bedroom floor just to feel something
“Sometimes, when I’m careless, I think survival is easy: you just keep moving forward with what you have, or what’s left of what you were given, until something changes—or you realize, at last, that you can change without disappearing, that all you had to do was wait until the storm passes you over and you find that—yes—your name is still attached to a living being.”
— Ocean Vuong, from On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous
