Thinking of Night Flower Arc 2 while I eat so I can lock in on figuring out where the hell to take the next chapter so here are some tidbits:
White Swirled Chocolate was originally never supposed to exist. HOWEVER, on a bus back from the grocery store I saw a peer with the prettiest hair and I felt compelled to immortalize her and her amazing style.
Speaking of, I was aiming for White Swirled Chocolate to rhyme with Madeline in terms of characterization. They're both flamboyant, loyal soldiers who are a bit vain when it comes to physical appearances. Sharp Espresso and Espresso are supposed to somewhat rhyme with each other, though the most glaring difference is that Sharp Espresso has little to no regard or respect for White Swirled Chocolate.
Cacao Sprig is a character I originally made to fill in the spot of the king's primary attendant, but as always, I've gotten very attached to her so she gets more characterization backstage. In my mind, she's an older woman who's son is about the same age as Dark Cacao physically, so there's a small part of her that sees Dark Cacao as her son.
The inspiration behind Skittish Haetae (Nabi) and their sister (Coco) got into a bad fight a week ago. I was able to at-home diagnose Coco with a redirected aggression problem given that she initially started chasing Nabi down and throwing hands after she scared herself via toaster. How I'm going to fit a toaster in a historical-fantasy world is beyond me. Both cats are ok and reconciling now after Coco spent a week in confinement!
There is going to be a character named Shuang Pei Nai introduced in the second half of Arc 2. She's currently in a very complicated situationship with Chocolate Khalimag on my Tomodachi Life island.
Every time someone comments on their visceral hate for Sharp Espresso I let out a little giggle bc you guys be RIOTING against this man. Which is good and what I intended; if no one was rioting like this I would have failed as an author and probably would have scrapped what I had for arc 2 and starting over completely from scratch.
This version of Dark Cacao is, by far, the hardest version for me to write because of how much he's going through. I've had to remind myself that this isn't the Dark Cacao from Arc 1 or the Dark Cacao we seen in canon, but a Dark Cacao who's constantly suffering from PTSD, forgetting the people who resulted in the PTSD, and severe depression on top of being in a toxic relationship.
Sharp Espresso is on my Tomodachi Life island in spirit because everyone keeps talking about nuking and killing him.
If I had the foresight, I would've uploaded a joke chapter for April Fool's where Dark Cacao and Sharp Espresso are arguing and then Chocolate Pepero bursts through the doors and whisks Dark Cacao away on a horse before riding off into the sunset (horses aren't a thing yet in the Dark Cacao Kingdom).
