Raven Pilars cover of Ty Dolla $ign's, Or Nah Which is by far my favorite female take on the song.
Rita Ora Speaks out on The Breakfast club
During her recent interview on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club Rita Ora spoke out about an alleged ongoing affair between her and Jay Z, putting to rest a rumor that began in 2009 when then 18-year old Rita was signed to Roc Nation. The tale would take on a life of it's own when the British songstress made an appearance alongside Hov at the 2012 Made in America Music Festival.
"Don’t you dare disrespect Beyonce like that ever again in your entire life," the now 23 year old singer said. "You should know better than that… that’s just straight up disrespect. You can’t even go there." Snapped Rita who is currently dating Dj Calvin Harris and seemed shocked by the question and went on to criticize the hosts for fueling the rumor by bringing up the subject. “Apologies go out to all of my fans, ‘cause they waited so patiently” said Roc Nation artist Jay Electronica, during the remix of popular Soulja boy song “We Made it” on which he is featured alongside rap great, Jay Z. This track marks the third recent release for New Orleans native Jay Electronica but is the first collaboration between the two since 2011′s Shiny suit theory. While Electronica used his opening verse to entice listeners with a lyrical blend of self motivation and references to ancient mysticism, it seemed to many that Jay Z used his portion of the song to send a larger message to a smaller audience. For many this remix can be seen as a re-introduction for Electronica who has been on a musical hiatus, but some argue that Jay’s verse is targeted towards Drake. The YMCMB artist released his own remake of the Eastbound and Down track in December and Hov’s lyrics from this most recent remix seem to respond to statements made by Drizzy in a recent interview. follow me on twitter “Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references.” said Drake in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, many believe Hov is referencing this statement when he spits, “Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk,” he says, “silly me rappin’ about shit that I really bought/ while these rappers rap about guns they ain’t shot/and a bunch of other silly shit that they ain’t got.” While I hope a beef isn’t brewing, it’s fair to say that both Jay’s were sending a message with this track and while I hope it is geared at gathering a larger audience only time will tell if it was in fact a jab at Drake. check out my full article here follow me on twitter
Check out this introduction to undergroud R&B artist Raven Pilar's newest EP Raw. For those of you who have enjoyed her work over the years and would like to ask her a few personal questions, feel free to comment, I'll try to sneak in a few at our upcoming interview.
Our top eight performance shots of Bryant Dope. The Queens native took the stage at Santos Party House for CMJ, performing NNY, GenerationY and more of his latest releases. You can get more info on his latest EP Raw Dope below. http://bryantdopemusic.com
Mighty Optimist is the first official video from Chuck Baka, a NY native who has meshed his Howard U vernacular with his Hip-Hop upbringings to create his unique sound. It was only two years ago when I first interviewed Chuck for this site and with this video circulating I am anxious to see what he will do next.
Here's the video for Confident, Justin Bieber Ft. Chance the rapper while it was released yesterday the track itself was the final single of Jusitn's popular music Mondays series and is my personal favorite of the collection.
Earlier this week hip hop fans celebrated the birthday of one of this ages most iconic rappers and my personal favorite Jay Z. I'm sharing this clip from sharing Jay's documentary Fade To Black. In this snippet you can watch Jay's initial reaction to the beat that would be the foundation for "Dirt Off Your Shoulder", the second chart topping single from his 2003 album, The Blackout. I think it's cool to see that it wasn't just a phone commercial ploy and that when these two creative forces are in the studio, there seems to be nothing but appreciation, laughter and encouragement. I as a listener have truly enjoyed witnessing their progression and it's good to know that somethings haven't changed. It's also cool to know that Timbaland said he was like Ric Flair, nearly a decade before Yezzy hit a Wooooo on the track but I digress, Happy birth Hov.
While October may be the first month to come to mind when thinking about Drake, this song November 18 has always been a favorite of mine since it's intial '09 release on So Far gone. Now of course today's date is what brought the song to ming however, one thing I enjoy about this song is the intimacy of the track itself. I truly appreciate the outro and the fact that he has held on to the conversational closings on many of his more personal songs, much similar to Connect on his latest album Nothing Was the Same.
What's good. I just recently joined tumblr and you have one of the nicer blogs I've see. I saw you had music posted and I was wondering if you would be interested in listening to some of my record label Epitome Family's music. If someone from the label already asked you I truly apologize for the repeat message but if not I would really value your listen. Also I followed, nice page!
hi and sure I would definitely review and post some of your songs
The Francesco Carrozzini directed Video for A$AP Rocky's, Phoenix The video features Michael K. WIlliams opposit of Joan Smalls and opens with the two having somewhat of a scurmish which quickly escalates. The video cuts in and out between the couple and Rocky spitting his verse elsewhere. Now I don't want to be a spoiler but I will say pay attention, there are many layers to this video so hang on, wait for the "A$AP dark twist" and enjoy. While this video is somewhat shocking, watching it numerous times has brought me back to listening to Long.Live.A$AP, Rocky's debut studio album where you can find this song amongst others.
Here's the official video for Break From Toronto by Party Next Door, while it came out two weeks ago it took me awhile to really grow to appreciate the video. I'm not going to lie, I felt like the theme of the video didn't really live up to the depth of the song lyrics, or maybe I just look into things too deeply. Nonetheless I liked enjoying a night through his eyes and the first person cinematography was definitely a great addition, so I guess in a way the video depicts exactly what he claims, a night durring a break from Toronto.
While the original solo version of Life 'round here was released nearly six months ago, James Blake made a pretty good choice when he decided bring Chance the Rapper on board for this project. The s ong has been a favorite of mine since my first listen, so I figured I should share the official video. Hope you enjoy.
For those of you who haven't gone out and nabbed the other half of The 20/20 experience here's one of my favorite tracks thus far.
This is Lorde's video for Tennis Court. While this video was released in June, it fits in well with the overall vibe of this season for me. Personally I enjoy her melodic lyricism, her soft voice carrying the passion and pain of the stories she tells. Bravado one of my favorite tracks from her EP Love Club is a great example of this and I suggest you all give it a Listen. While the cinematography for this video is very simple I appreciate it's use of lighting to emphasize and animate certain parts of the video. With her song Royal, another hit in both the US and UK she is quickly beoming an artist to keep your eye out for and I can only imagine the collaborations that are to come.
