Welcome to the 2017 Leverage Bigbang!
What is the bang?
An opportunity for writers and artists to come together and make fanworks celebrating the show Leverage. This bang has both big- and mini-bang options. Check out the requirements and details below.
How does it work?
Writers and artists sign up to participate. Sign ups open August 1st. Authors begin work on their stories and submit a draft/summary by October 6th. Titles, warnings, and summaries will then be posted for artists to claim. Claims will work on a first come first serve basis, and once artists and writers have been matched up creators can begin collaborating. Final works are due November 24th and posting will begin in December.
Requirements:
- For writers: Minibang: Minimum 5k words Bigbang: Minimum 10k words No maximum. Writers will indicate which type of bang they intend to do when signing up, but can change their minds any time before artist claims open; to do so email the mods.
- For artists: Minibang: Minimum 1 artwork Bigbang: Minimum 2 artworks No maximum. Artists can submit illustrations, comics, photomanips, fan videos, fanmixes, gifs, graphics, or any other art medium that can be digitally shared. Videos must be a minimum of 1 minute 30 seconds long, fanmixes minimum of ten tracks, minimum of six gifs. For any other questions involving types of art or art requirements contact the mods either by email or tumblr ask.
Basic Rules:
Check ins are mandatory. If you miss a check-in, you have 48 hours to email the mods, or you will be disqualified.
Works cannot be posted before the official post date. This means both that they must be new (previously unpublished) works and that they cannot be released early.
Any (or no) pairing is acceptable so long as the main focus of the story revolves around canon Leverage characters.
Any rating is acceptable.
All appropriate warnings and tags must be used for both the summary/draft submission and the final post.
For more details check out our Rules, FAQs, and Timeline.
Drop us an email at [email protected] or an ask.
Welcome to the 2017 Leverage Bigbang!
I’m going to attempt this, despite the looming thesis deadline (which is why this account is so dead, aaaaahhhh, sorry, there will be activity eventually).
Anyone else going to sign up? I’m excited!

Leverage Con Names
This a list of all the cons/scams/grifts that the Leverage team names during the show. Included is everything from a small one-on-one interaction between a grifter and a mark (eg. Little Orphan Annie) to full blown multilevel integrated cons (eg. The White Rabbit). If it had a name, it’s here.
If it has a black star beside it, it has a canon explanation or demonstration (eg. The Moonwalking Bear). If it has a white star, there were hints or comparisons made about it (eg. The Apple Pie is “like the Cherry Pie, but with lifeguards”). If it’s hyperlinked, it’s a real life scam and the link is to Wikipedia. If it’s totally unmarked, then the name was mentioned but never elaborated upon and is a part of the team’s beautiful argot. :)

The “MassDOT Special” isn’t actually a universally recognized con (in universe), but a reference to the previous time the Leverage Team got a form of transportation changed by calling in, the train rerout in s3e7, via the *Mass*achusetts *D*epartment *o*f *T*ransportation.
Yup! :) It's a named con though, so it made the list.
↪The Bank Shot Job
me, watching Leverage, with tears in my eyes: they just LOVE each other SO MUCH, they love EACH OTHER and they love CRIME
my favourite thing about leverage is how careful it is to place blame exactly where it lies. sometimes i can’t even believe this show managed as many seasons as it did because it is so blatantly anti-capitalist. but as an example of the care leverage takes, “the low low price job,” where they take on value!more aka walmart. by having hardison fully address the fact that his nana was able to feed everyone on a tight budget because of value!more, the episode takes the onus of responsibility off of the the people who are forced to shop there (and work there, for that matter) and right back onto the company for taking advantage of poor people and shitty economies. it’s brilliant really. especially because it’s something i’ve tried to explain to people before (i.e. voting with your dollar is a fucking shitty skewed system in a society where some people have vastly more dollars than others) and leverage just slips it in. what a good show.

It’s important to note that reason the MassDot Special is unnamed in S3E7 is because that’s the incident the name it self references. They were crank calling the Massachusetts Department of Transportation a.k.a. MassDOT with a fake incident to influence the behavior of public transit employees in S3E7. When they needed to do the same to the airport personnel in S4E9, it was the perfect shorthand to reference the last time they did the same thing. It also shows how the names often have nothing to do with the content of the con, instead being a reference to the circumstances of it’s first use (accounting for some of the really wacky names.)
Merely marking it as having been unnamed in it’s first appearance, glosses over the fact that this was the one time in the show that we witnessed the GENESIS of a Con name.
Okay, that’s all true and I really appreciate the fact that you shared it because it’s super interesting, but can we also acknowledge that I purposefully didn’t include that information in the list? If I had wanted to expand this post into a discussion on the ins and outs of different con names, I definitely could have (shit, I could write an essay on the “Edward Albee” alone). However, I decided not to do this because this list is meant to be a reference so people can write fic more easily and nothing more. I think saying that I “glossed over” the MassDot Special is unfair - specifically excluding information that is not important to the intent of the post is not glossing over, it’s editing.
I apologize for the offending wording. My gut instinct here is to be a more than a little put out over what appears to be getting attacked for adding information to a tumblr post, but I’m going to assume for the sake of this situation that you felt every bit as attacked by my addition as I do by getting called out for having made it. That was not my intent. Again, I appologize.
I’m really not attacking you over the addition - I honestly do like that you added it, it’s interesting and useful info and definitely makes the post better for it! I love resource posts that build and build into awesome libraries of info and I’d be thrilled if that happened to my little post! I’m sorry that I made you feel attacked, that truly wasn’t my intention. I’m just a little upset that my very first original post in a fandom (about which I’ve only heard and seen amazing, friendly things) received a comment that seemed to imply that I wasn’t... thorough enough? Or something? The idea that I “merely” labelled something, and that I “glossed over” important facts is disheartening in the implication that I didn’t put enough effort into the list, despite the fact that I spent days compiling it and researching cons and editing everything to be consistent and simple to use. Maybe I’m overreacting idk, but those word choices upset me (probably more than if I’d received them in a more notoriously rude fandom) and I wanted to explain why.
