Mid-semester 'break'

A week free from University obligations allowed me to leave some of the students with a challenge alongside the swag of work expected of them upon return in week 7.  The challenge was to take on an area of interest (for one student it is landscape - dystopic or otherwise) and using the skills learned so far, produce a single killer piece.  This idea came from a post regarding 'Spider Woman' and the alternate covers offered for the female characters comic.  I thought it a little unfair to lump work onto the students without firstly challenging myself to come up with an alternate cover of my own.

The opportunity arose to engage with the Wacom HD24 Touch whilst live scribing for a NSW eHealth presentation @ Rosehill Events Centre in Sydney.  Throughout the day we heard from businessman Mark Bouris' personal experiences on his journey to success, and statistics driven presenters showcasing current achievements through change implementation, and expectations in the organisation wide journey ahead. 

Working via The Difference whose program of choice was Adobe Photoshop for such events, I introduced them to Sketchbook Pro* (6.2.5) due to its elementary interface and quick layering options - ideal for a fast paced scribe session!  During the set up however, the Touch would crash my lap top when opening the first new layer - the reason goes unknown.     Aside from this, using the Touch was similar to other tablets once the 'touch' options was disabled; thus allowing the operator to use the screen as a hand rest.  Along with the cumbersome scale of the unit and its 28.6kg bulk, the unit - although technically functional and impressive to look at, is too much in so many ways.

Using a digital sketch program not as a replacement, but as a support to traditional sketching methods, is a great way to realise a thought with some really effective results.  

Having recently used the latest version of Sketchbook Pro and now using an older version on my home pc, I can see the time saving advantages of the newer interface - yet if enjoying the activity anyhow, time frame is irrelevant.

Digirati graphic is on its way...

Manipulating consumer behavior and increasing business activity via various digital platforms is an economic strategy studied at MIT, with the findings now utilised by Capgemini as a key offering for its global client base.  

The notion of becoming what is referred to as a ‘Digirati’, begins with understanding the changing face of consumer behavior and the benefits of altering ones business model - in addition to realising ones current status regarding technology use in their own business operations.

Creating the info-graphic was an iterative process with the busy outcome achieved through close working relationships with some of the great Capgeministaff, whose clear objective and intention assisted in driving the project.

Utilising mobile technology, cloud computing and consumer analysis generates a buyers environment where the streamlining of the overall experience has the opportunities to constrain manufacturing, manufacturing processes, and based on public opinion, what are we - the global population, most conscious about.

Norway from Beyond; Easing social, technological and cultural challenges for new Ugandan migrants in Norway.

Quite recently a collaboration with emerging creatives has risen in the form of Melbourne Micro Space Galleries - an initiative aiming to bring to the everyday urban environment, a chance for the general public to discover some of our City's great creators.  We aim to use spaces we deem underutilised or in need of beautification and have began with the first installment 'unused and abused' - featuring Soul Stories.  An illustrated and verbal response to one woman's reflection on her life's happenings.

Spiritual offerings go high tech in Sri Lanka

A design challenge indeed...  What would a 'pray-pal' receptacle look like in an environment that has existed for many generations, as a place to appease gods, give thanks for timely blessings and reconnect with culture. Imagine the act of wrapping a coin in cloth, tying it with jute cord and tossing it into a holy monuments reservoir, only to be replaced with the sound of 'beep, beep'...

Some communicable Illustrations for a small bicycle business specialising in cargo bikes and e-bikes.  The recognisable aesthetic of corrugated card is a great base (and material) to be re-used, giving off a beneficial texture that compliments the mediums of pencil and pastel used in the graphic work.

A great opportunity at the end of 2013 saw the assistance with designing, manufacturing and finishing of these great pieces for the RMIT departmental awards.
