Hello everyone! Welcome to the official start of the Glenwood Parks Tumblr page. For those of you who are unfamiliar, I am a Park Ranger stationed at Glenwood Parks, and since December 2023, have been the main person responsible for running the Glenwood Parks Twitter account.*

Following a show of interest from those who read, follow, and interact with our channel, we were asked to potentially expand to here as well, to let fans have an easier time viewing our posts. We took a vote, and a near-unanimous "Yes" won - so here we are! Before I sign off, here's a couple of Q&A's our team put together, to hopefully help any newcomers along: *1/31/25 Edit: We have since moved over to Bluesky - hope to see you there!

1. Who runs the account? A: Myself, a fellow Parks employee from our Botany team who goes by the name of Dewdrop, and Miss Diane, whom you may have met at the Ranger Station.

2. How do we know who's posting? A: Currently we use a mix of written names and emojis (you'll find Dewdrop's fairly on the nose) to indicate who is writing outside of myself, chosen by the writers.

3. What do you post here? A: Event announcements, fun facts from the Park, and some occasional interactions between the different teams/departments.

4. I heard you and Dewdrop got into a prank war and got in trouble for posting it on the Twitter. A: No comment. 5. Can I view the old tweets on here? A: Not as of yet, but we are considering forming an "archive" of our previous messages, for easier viewing. If there's enough interest generated, it's a guarantee! 6. Can I ask you guys questions/reply to the tweets/leave comments? A: Yes! We highly encourage anyone and everyone to take part. While we may not always be able to answer everyone, it makes our entire team very happy to see people enjoying themselves and wanting to engage with our Park. 7. Aren't you just a parody account for CastleAudio's Glenwood series? A: Yes.

Hi I have a qn abt animal research or well research in general

How do you determine that a source is reliable? Like in sch we're taught to cross reference to others and to find ones that might oppose (but how would we know the ones were referring to are accurate as wrll?), or to look for bias (again, how does one do that w medical / scientific things?)

(eg I asked that qn abt snails a while back and yes, repeated similar results, or ones in diff experiment which point to same thing = likely true conclusion. But also how did they know what to test?)

You're always going to have a bias risk. It comes with being human. You can try to find one with minimal bias, but that's the best you can hope for.

Look for reputable sources: published scientific journals, government affiliated websites, etc.

Take everything with a grain of salt because even reputable resources can get contaminated by those publishing in them or running them. (Or bought out by someone who affects results)

Do your own research. Review what they're claiming, the evidence they've brought forward, and how they did it. Find out what sort of testing they did, and if there were any factors that could affect it: like testing only or a majority from a specific group of people, or using a small control group vs a larger one. Nothing is every guaranteed as "absolutely true" or "absolutely false". We discover new information every day, debunk old stuff, and people can make mistakes. Just do your best, keep an open mind, and keep asking questions. -Ranger and Dewdrop (typed by a volunteer who wished to remain anonymous, this turned into a whole lesson at the Ranger Station)

Knowing that Grumps has had watchtower duty before has piqued my interest and curiosity. Are you permanently assigned to an office job now, or do you still volunteer for watchtower duty? The way I understand it, you’re permanently based at the station doing paperwork. Also, is there some kind of "take turns" system for who works the watchtowers? Oh and if Dewdrop were to be your radio buddy, by the way, I bet they'd call you Captain Khakis 😎

It's a position you have to apply for. After that, I guess you could say some of us "volunteer". I haven't in a while though, and don't plan to right now. I prefer to be closer to town.

Do you guys have watchtowers in Glenwood? I would assume so. If you do, have either of you ever been on watchtower duty before taking on an office job, or has it always been an office role? I’ve also heard stories from watchtower rangers about weird things in the woods, and I’m curious if any of the rangers have seen anything like that.

I have, and anything seems weird if you're left alone long enough. It's one of the reasons we check in with each other.

hi I have a question about animal instincts / what we know about animals.

how do we know that animals do things because of a reason? is it all just our theorising?

for example, snails coming out after the rain cause they don't have to worry about drying out. how do we know it's not actually a call from their god / some kind of pilgrimage? or their mates asking them out for fun? or them making an appointment with the ladies?

why do they move in the first place?

and do they just make guesses abt if they'll make it to wherever they're going before the ground dries up?

For your first question: vigorous research, studies, and confirming or disproving theories.

However, we'll never know 100%, as we cannot read the minds of animals. (And even if we could, humans think more complexly than they do - it'd probably hurt to try).

My gf is coming round soon and idk what to bake. Cookies, Brownies, Cupcakes or something else? Pls help me

Ask her what sort of baked goods she likes, and surprise her with that. Otherwise:

Cookies can have the most variety, and can be stored easily like brownies, but cupcakes can work best for a celebration or for someone who doesn't mind a slightly messy treat.

If you want to avoid having to decorate anything, or don't have a lot of space to set things aside to cool, I recommend brownies. You can keep them in the pan and just set them on the oven to cool, and don't need to make them look fancy.

(You don't need to make anything look fancy, but it can be fun)
