Rosie was on her way back home after class when she saw the strange squirrel come out of no where. Having never seen a warp ring let alone one being used she stopped in her tracks with a look of shock on her face.

“Well you probably won’t run into anyone from the royal family if you stay here, they don’t really leave the castle grounds much, but I can see how meeting someone you know can be a problem.”

She was itching to ask him how he knew her, since she’d never met any royalty before, but knew that messing with the timeline was probably not a good idea.

With a nod, Elias took the warp ring out of his pocket and placed it on his hand. A few moments of concentration later and it would fly from said hand, opening into a portal large enough for someone to walk through. 

“Okay good…it’s opened up to the right place this time.”

Rosie couldn’t help but have her eyes widen at the portal opening. That was just amazing. She looked to see a city that was most definitely not the one they were currently in. More questions popped into her mind but she pushed them down knowing she shouldn’t know the answers.

“Well then it was nice to meet you Elias. I hope you have a save trip home.”

Rosie felt her face continue to heat up.

“Well ok, if you say so. Um is there anything you need while you’re here or are you just going to use your warp ring to go back to your own time now?”

“Not that I know of. This was a bit of an unintentional visit…and I should go, actually. The last thing I need to do is run into dad…or grandpa. Or someone else I know.”

The way he said her name made it sound like he knew her. Great another stranger who apparently knew who she was while she was left in the dark. At hearing him confirm he was from the future she gave a sigh, this was starting to become another headache.

“3239? That’s quite a few years ahead. Wait did you say Acorn? As in the royal family Acorn?”

“Yup. I’m Maximillian Acorn’s first born son…and that’s about all I can tell you. I don’t want to risk altering my future. Course if my warp ring actually worked, this wouldn’t be a problem.”

“My name’s Rosie. Sorry if this is a weird question but um are you from the future? I’ve only met one other person who used a warp ring and he calmed he was.”

“Rosie?!” He said with a shock. That settled it. Somehow his warp ring took him to the past…again. Much as he wanted to make up a story, he couldn’t bring himself to lie. Not to Rosie. With a sigh, he replied.

“…Yes, I am. I’m from the year 3239. And my full name is Elias Acorn.”

So that’s what a warp ring was. Well there was definitely no denying it now. That gold and black hedgehog really was from the future and if what Charles had said was true he wasn’t the first one to come here.

“Oh right you’re in the residential district of Mobotropolis. Um sorry but who are you?”

Elias groaned slightly as he placed a hand on the top of his head, before rubbing it. Another trip into the past was something he wasn’t expecting. 

So who was this? And why did she look so familiar? 

“Elias. My name’s Elias.”

“Sorry but how…? What was that?”

“Oh right…sorry.” He paused as he held out a small gold ring to Rosie. “Warp ring. They allow me to travel around Mobius, and I had been trying to get home. Say, you know where I am?”

“Blasted random warp ring trips…” Elias mumbled to himself as he got off the ground, beginning to dust himself off but stopping when he saw the woodchuck in front of him, staring in confusion.

“Erm…hello there. Sorry for the sudden appearance.”

Rosie blinked at the stranger before snapping out of it and shaking her head.

“Sorry but how...? What was that?”

She still wasn’t completely over her shock.

There is a light knock on Chucks door. On the other side is a nervous looking woodchuck. (glimpseofthepastwoodchuck)

“Hold on! I’m coming right now!” There was a familiar loud voice behind this door. Once he finally opened he drew up an intense surprised expression, not believing his eyes at what he had just saw.

“….. R-Rosie?”

“Alright.”

Rosie waited for Chuck to get his coat and followed him outside. When he told her that everything looked clear she relaxed some. She knew it was silly to think Dylan was everywhere out to get her, but the way he kept showing up didn’t help.

“Ok we should probably get going before it get’s too late.”

Charles nodded as soon as they started walking, departing from his own home. Oddly, for the entire period, Charles said no word at all. Maybe he just preferred silence? It only took them a few moments till they reached the destination, actually her home. Then they skipped their pace to a stop when they were infront of house.

“There. Have a wonderful evening, Rosie. And do not hesitate call me out if you see Dylan again.” That’s all he could speak up, finally. Perhaps a little awkward for him and her who had just stepped down, degrading themselves from the most important level of relationship.

Rosie played with the hem off her poncho awkwardly in the silence as they walked. It wasn’t a bad silence, it was actually kind of nice just walking next to him like this. Still that’s what made it awkward. If only she could reach out and hold his hand, but she knew that she couldn’t.

Once they were at her house she turned to him and smiled. “ I will, thank you again for walking me home.“ She hesitated before giving him a kiss on the cheek, that wasn’t too weird was it? Friends could do that right? She shook those thoughts away and smiled again. “Have a safe trip back.”

“Ok, but pleas don’t bottle things up like this, alight? I’m always here to listen if you need me.”

Rosie looked to the window and saw how dark it was getting. The idea of running into Dylan on her way home terrified her and she gave a nod.

“Yeah, I think it would be better if you walked me home. Thank you.”

Charles merely nodded. “Alright, gimme a sec to grab my coat.” 

Within a minute, they soon exited the house, inspecting the area. “Hmm, this street seems clear.” Charles shook his head a little convinced as he looked around, while the snowflakes kept landing softly on him. Despite being tensed up he couldn’t help but think about that mysterious guy.

“Alright.”

At feeling him tense Rosie wondered if she’d done the right thing but feeling him relax reassured her. When he thanked her she nodded and awkwardly let go.

“Yeah, that would be nice. You sure you’re going to be alright? I don’t have to go if you don’t want me too.”

“I’m used to hard times so I will be fine, no worries. But outside is getting a lot darker and I don’t think that’d be a good idea, unless Dylan might be still around? I could start a check-up.” suggested Charles, trying to ignore the butterflies in stomach. He hoped so bad that a moment like that wouldn’t end up so sudden.

“Oh.” That was really all Rosie could say to that as she brought a hand to her mouth. She didn’t know what to say to that. She knew the pain of loosing a parent and there really wasn’t anything she could say to make it any better.

Not knowing what else to do she pulled him into a tight hug. She didn’t care about confusing feelings right now Charles needed comfort and she was going to give it to him.

Needless to ask, Charles was taken back a bit surprised by that as his heartbeat skipped to an emotional pace. That…. That was the first hug in sign of comfort once in a while. Instead of pulling away, Charles remained in same position even if he didn’t have courage to embrace back. Despite being not together anymore, it meant a lot to him. For a moment he felt like tearing up though it wasn’t right time for that, not in front of her or else he’d embarrass himself. Maybe that because she was just a great friend? Not a lover? Oh, Chaos. Slowly, he felt his old self returning to its place, the happiness given by the other powerfully melting his bitterness little by little.

“…. T-Thanks, I suppose….” A soft, but slight shaky sigh escaped him. “… If you really need to go home, I can guide you though. I don’t want your cousin to worry too much.”

“What do you mean?” Rosie hadn’t heard that Charles had been having family problems. She knew that he didn’t get a long with his little brother very much but this sounded like it was more then that.

“It’s a long story.” started the hedgehog as he ran his hand through his quills, somewhat feeling very slightly uncomfortable but his body hid it well. Charles had to word this out pretty carefully just so this situation wouldn’t end up like the same with other alternate of his who didn’t really mean to anger him like that because of all.

“A few months ago, after when New Year came in, my father just informed me that mom is gravely sick, and so, there’s no possible cure for that.” With that he sighed, finally revealing that secret he kept for months, away from friends.

“I can’t help but worry about you. Your my friend and I care about you.”

Rosie’s cheeks flushed a little when Charles placed a hand on hers. It was warm and comforting and it made her feel better. No don’t read too much into it, he has someone else, but she couldn’t help the happiness that she felt at the touch. 

Luckily or unluckily the hand was quickly gone and Charles was apologizing. “It’s ok, you don’t have to be sorry.” She wanted to reach out to him again but didn’t. Seeing his tired expression she frowned. “Hey is something wrong you look really tired.”

Then again, those caring words made him blush slightly, his head feeling very slightly warmed up but he instantly ignored it. What mattered the most was that it made him feel better little by little. Not to mention he also had a familiar sensation: the butterflies in stomach. Oh, chaos.

Shrugging any similar vivid thoughts of both of them off he’d been having every now and then since Halloween, Charles looked up at the other. “Well, nothing’s wrong. Just college stuffs, that’s all.” He went hesitant to continue further for a second but Rosie was one of his most trustworthy friends, so why not? “And… My family’s situation isn’t better either.”

“What do you mean?” Rosie hadn’t heard that Charles had been having family problems. She knew that he didn’t get a long with his little brother very much but this sounded like it was more then that.

Rosie relaxed once the subject of time travel was dropped. She still wasn’t sure if she was fully ready to believe it but she trusted Charles not to lie to her about something like this.

She looked down at her cup as Charles talked more about meeting the strange hedgehog she’d run into. Another bad feeling twisted in her gut. Why did she feel like there was something bad about that guy? However, at hearing he’d talk to more people about it she managed a smile, at least if the guy was dangerous Charles wouldn’t be alone.

“Good, as long as you’re careful. I’d hate it if you got hurt.”

Before Rosie finished her sentence Charles couldn’t help but earn a yawn a little bit, feeling how his necessary energy for work and all went totally dulled. Surely, it emptied his mind as well but at least he managed to process Rosie’s expressive words, understanding her concern completely. On other hand, the urge of wanting to hold her hand in sign of comfort was strong. And which he did so far, even if they weren’t together anymore.

“Rosie.” he called out softly as soon as his hand reached out and gently touched the other’s hand, absentmindedly squeezing it a little. “Like I said. Don’t worry about me…” 

Then came a short, but awkward silence. In that moment when Charles opened his eyes a bit, getting self-conscious once again. As result of his little action, it made his cheeks flush as he withdrew his hand. “Er, sorry.” Darn it, he’d been awfully depraved by the lack of proper sleep. Just again!

“I can’t help but worry about you. Your my friend and I care about you.”

“Yeah I think taking a brake from talking about this would help. It’s really giving me a headache.” She took her cup again and sat back down. Not that all this time travel stuff wasn’t cool and interesting, it was just a lot to take in.

“Well if you do go to meet him I don’t think you should be alone. Something about that guy just didn’t feel right. I don’t want you to be alone with him just in case he’s dangerous.”

“Take your time, Rosie.” replied Charles in full agreement. That had just reminded him of something. He used to have that sort of headache back in that day when he met Shard for the first time. How ironic.

“I appreciate your concern. You may be right about the fact that he’s dangerous, but I’d rather meet him in person before I form my judgement.” declared the blue hedgehog. He almost mentioned that he also was Shard’s alternate though, from the look of it, he assumed it wasn’t such a genial idea. She might freak out anytime upon hearing him using robotic term. So, he went against it.

“I will talk with other friends from future. It will eventually solve this problem out.” finished Charles with a rub on his ear. As if Rosie looked slightly close she would notice that this poor hedgehog seemed pretty tired, perhaps half-upset. Something had been bothering him for a while, since last time when he leaded Rosie to her home, or earlier? Definitively…
