And unicorns have external magic, the ability to completely influence the external environment.

I mean, a unicorn doesn't become an Earth pony because it doesn't have a horn. The horn is a conductor of magic. If you just replace it, the unicorn will start conjuring again. But if you insert an artificial horn into an earth pony, the unicorn will not work, because the type of magic will not allow
