but no srsly i do like how different they look from eachother and their parents, both real and fake lol. i do think this colour palette however fits leafhawk much more than leafcrow and well, lets just say the former is the superior ship hahah (hollyleaf is literally tadpole too its so cute) also that way lionblaze looks like mothwing and is forever haunting her in camp lol

shipping them is fun but its also fun thinking about how at the end of the day chrysalis and cadence probably want eachother dead and would kill one another to protect their people… or ponies… or changelings…. their subjects!!

the idea of fireheart slowly falling in love and going crazy over crazy prophetic manic pixie girl spottedleaf who speaks to him sweetly in his dreams and walks away without even a glance over her shoulder is very enticing. this would have been pretty cool if it was this dazed unrequited love with spottedleaf giving no more than two craps about fireheart, just the safety and goodwill of her clan, synonymous to her character, going down fighting even as a medicine cat.

and what if i said Astrid was the Sandstorm of the httyd franchise

YES YES YES ANON YOU ARE SO CORRECT YES, i genuienly was so happy to read this ilysm mysterious person

like theyre both female love interests intially posed to be this super cool, lean mean fighting machine that actually strike and interesting pair with the protaginist AND those around them. but both over time fall for the protagonist and get watered down to just being their ‘partner’. sandstorm slightly misses this but come on, the last time were really emotionally invested in her as readers is due to her qualm of spottedleafs presence in firestars life.

i think these characters are still so enjoyable because of both fandoms awesome imagination and how much they do with so little, but sadly thats not enough. both warrior cats and httyd have a huge sexism problem, different in ways but ultimately file down to female character not having any agency in their own life. sandstorm fades into the background while astrid stands theres with her optimistic smile and weirdly platinum blonde hair.

duuuuude your rendering is genuinely so freaking beautiful, like everything is so pretty whether its traditional or digital and your character designs omgmgmgmgm.. you're too good at this ;) and since you've drawn the rest of the fire family how abt you drop some hcs for sandstorm and a design!

Initially I made a more canon compliant design, but…

part of me cares too much about the genetic realism of these fictional cats. So I made an alt where she’s a cryptic tortie. I know those are super rare, but I wanted her to stay orange enough to be SANDstorm.

In terms of keeping the family visually identifiable as family, I thought that she could give Squilf her eye shape and Leafpool her face structure. Also I know I made Squirrelflight very fluffy, so if we want to stay realistic let’s pretend that Sandstorm and Firestar both have a recessive long haired gene.

editing to add: i think unrealistic designs are awesome. i saw someone draw squilf with green ears it was so cute. genetics is fun too tho! i know this is a bit of a Drama for some people so im clarifying lol

is this a safe space to say im not fond of starlight, like she is okay as a character but i have ZERO likeness towards her, i dont hate her shes just meh. not trying to delve to deep into anything but i was the biggest fan of this whole shebang in the early brony days where i was concernably young but that is generally what made me fall in love with the show so yeah, literally everything after season 6 (EXCEPT APPLEJACKS PARENTS) i genuinely do not feel care for… to an extent… heres some cute lesbian horses to make up for it and yes, i love trixie

i genuinely hate the way astrid was framed throught httyd as a ‘love interest’, it degrades her as a character and limits her growth as all of a sudden her only role is being hiccups no. 1 support :/ anyways this is not about that but oh my god i love heathstrid so much its canon in my head i love them and their limitless oppurtinities and to everyone who writes fics and draws art of them BLESS YOU. love my femmes 4 femmes

not to happy with this one lol but i really lile this ship as well, i think heathertail especially was such an under done character that could have been fleshed out, even atagonistically, wayyy more. i think these two girls would get a long well and it would have been cooler to see hollyleaf, a character thats so adamant on sticking to a code that ultimately kicks her in the butt, fall for a windclan warrior. we wouldve got to see the way that affected her during her apprenticehood and more importantly, her putting that relationship into context with her birth circumstances and whether the code really was to everyones benefit or not? but i guess we will never know lol!
