♦ Depending on where you began the story, it was a about N o a h C z e r n y.

The problem with being dead was that your stories stopped being lines and started being circles. They started to begin and end in the same moment: the moment of dying. It was difficult to focus on other ways of telling stories, and to remember that the living were interested in the specific order of events. Chronology. That was the word. Noah was more interested in the spiritual weight of a minute. It was easy to know everything when time was circular, but it was hard to remember how to use it.

K hadn’t been having a great day, truth be told, and now some dickhead had bumped into him, and he’d dropped his phone. and now the screen was even more fucked than it already had been. “fucking watch where you’re going, MAYBE.” he crouched to retrieve his phone, and remained there to get a good look at the boy who had fallen over. “there’s plenty of s p a c e on the sidewalk for the both of us, sweetheart, yeah?”

just by the man’s tone, noah found himself cowering on the cement. he made a point to keep his eyes on anything but him. he could practically feel his energy draining as the moments passed, although it might have just been fear. while it wasn’t uncommon for him to avoid confrontation, there was something else nagging at him. something about the guy’s voice struck a pang of familiarness deep within his stomach. when his eyes finally dared to travel upwards, he couldn’t hold back the small gasp that escaped. he had followed ronan and the other aglionby boys around enough, with or without their knowledge, to know that face. it had been awhile, but time worked differently for noah. “you’re supposed to be dead,” he whispered, standing to his feet and stumbling back.

Her hand gently gripped the boy’s arm, bringing him to a straight-standing position. ❛❛ It’s quite all right, dear, ❜❜ she replies as she pats his arm and let’s go. ❛❛ The city is quite beautiful, isn’t it? ❜❜ Even though she is blind, Ballora sees it in a whole different way.

"woah,” was all he could say as his arm was caught. noah felt so overwhelmingly solid, and, while it felt amazing, it came with its own set of hurdles. being more human had its own set of hurdles. but he loved it. whatever energy was present in new york, he couldn’t get enough of it. “thank you. not used to this,” he replied vaguely, referring to both the city and his new sense of realness. gazing around, all he could do was nod in response to her question. it was beautiful, both the energy and sights. “so many lights. and shiny things...metal. lots of metal...” his mind began to think of all the potential america’s largest city held. if it wasn’t for the longing of his friends that had already began to curdle within his stomach, he could see himself staying there for eternity. and it hadn’t even been ten minutes ! looking over at the stranger, he tilted his head. “you new here too?”

lola was trying to get as much possible that she could for her new home. living alone was ODD, to say the very least, considering she was sixteen and barely capable of taking care of herself. but whatever, she had miles a MAJORITY of her time. with a bag of supplies in one arm ( effectively closing off her line of sight due to her stature. ) she was bound to run into someone. so it was NO SURPRISE when she did. but them apologizing? that w a s surprising.

“ oh my gosh, are you kidding? don’t even say sorry, i totally should have gotten like, a stick or something so i didn’t run into anyone! ” because that’d help. the blue haired girl sat the bag on the ground, offering her hand to the other —– because manners, of course. “ you’re not hurt, right? i’m so sorry. ”

noah looked up at the girl, blinking. then, for seconds moments, he looked between her and the bag. “that’s a really full bag,” he said plainly from the ground before mentally slapping himself. wow. his social skills had taken a serious beating. for a moment he tried to remember if he had always been this awkward. “i, uh, mean thank you,” he recovered, grasping onto her extended arm and standing up. “i’m not hurt. i’m not able to get hurt. and i promise i’m not just saying that to appear macho. macho is the last thing i am.” a deep breath escaped as he told himself to shut up. had it really been that long since he’d talked to someone??? “again, sorry. d’you need help with your bag?”

Lydia’s mind was spinning with a maths equation as she was on her way back home, going over it again and again, trying to find her mistake. She had learned not to look on her phone while she walked through the city, but having your head stuck in the clouds wasn’t exactly better as she stumbled right into another person, even causing them to fall. “Oh god, don’t be sorry, it was totally my fault.” She reached her hand out to him, offering her help for him to get up. “You didn’t hurt yourself, did you?”

“nah, it was totally my fault.” he took her hand, still trying to process how solid he was. “’m fine. what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” noah shrugged and smiled to himself. really, he should be a comedian. plenty of death jokes to make, although they kinda fell flat when the other party didn’t understand he was already dead. chewing on his lip, he looked around. “this is new york, or am i wrong?”

"yeah...yes.” he felt more than alright. it had been awhile since he had felt this alive. taking her hand, he stood up and offered a smile. “’m sorry. i’ve never been to new york. just got here, uh, literally. not used to so many people.” or being seen by people in general. “thank you.”

at sight of the woman’s reaction to him falling, noah shook his head fervently and offered a smile. it was his fault. his mind, per usual, was elsewhere. she shouldn’t feel bad because he was being spacey. besides, he couldn’t even feel pain in the first place. (but he wasn’t going to get into that conversation.) “no! don’t apologize!” he took her hand in his and stood up. hopefully she didn’t notice how cold it was. that was often awkward to explain, and she didn’t seem the type to appreciate grim ‘jokes’. “thank you. uh, for helping me up. i hope i didn’t hurt you. colliding and all...sorry about that, again.”

This guy was solid, and he looked human, so he just assumed it was just him extremely cold and mistaking it for what it wasn’t. “You alright though?” he asked before extending a hand out to him

noah blinked, looking up at the stranger. how was he so visible??? for several seconds, he stared at the man’s hand, hesitant to make physical contact with those he didn’t know. but it’d be rude not to take it, and if there was one thing noah wasn’t, it was rude. finally, after a couple more moments, his stone cold hand grabbed onto the extended limb and got to his feet. “yeah...thanks. ‘m a bit out of it today.” like most days. “lot to take it,” he muttered, more to himself than anything. he looked down at his feet, assuming the guy would walk away.

She’d traveled around the country with the Jamboree, but she’d never really thought she’d stay in these big cities…At least, unwillingly. She’d been so astounded by her surroundings that she yelped a little when someone bumped into her. “My heavens! Are you alright, sugar?” Teddi drawled, looking at the younger male, brow knitted in concern.

overjoyed he was so visible and solid, noah sat on the ground for several moments in a a blissful stupor. he didn’t know what kind of energy new york had, but he liked it. looking up at the woman, he smiled shyly and nodded. “more than alright, thanks.” he stood up. maybe it was a temporary thing, but he was feeling more and more like himself. it was like a switch had been flipped on, filling him with a newfound energy. “i’ve never been to nyc. it’s really big. so many lights. pretty lights. are you from here? i wanna go to that ice skating rink. ya know, the one in all the movies? and central park! there’s that dog statue there. uh, i forget his name. oh, oh, and that big toy store...it has, like, this huge piano you can step on!” his voice picked up in excitement as he spoke to the stranger, visibly becoming more and more avid.

Oh, God, somehow I just thought of alive!Noah running with the dream pack? And I really like it?? I mean, getting lots of speeding tickets and jumping on tables seem like pack-ish things to do, don't they? And Noah seems to have a natural attraction to people who're "something more," and doesn't that seem like a fitting way to describe a dream thief and the lovely piece of dreamspace he stole?

YES but also because he’s so Good, when kavinsky or anyone does something shitty he’s just like… so disappointed and like wtf was that for why are you like this and they’re like stfu noah but inside they feel guilty because letting Noah down is #theworst

okay, liv knew texting and walking was technically WRONG, but with her first show approaching she needed to pay attention to her texts. and she was usually very good at texting and walking. usually. except on those rare occasions when she would accidentally smack right into someone. for the record, six inch heels are NOT the best footwear for crashing into people in the middle of the street. she lost her balance as her ankle twisted, and she landed butt-first on the sidewalk. panic filled her for a second, but it went away as soon as she tested her ankle. it hurt, but with some ice, it would be fine for rehearsal. her attention turned to the guy she’d just knocked down. “oh my god. are you okay? that was totally my fault. i wasn’t looking. i’m so sorry.”

noah soundlessly gasped as the stranger fell, his mouth twisting into a little ‘o’ as he watched in horror as the girl fell. his mind was still reeling, attempting to make sense of why he suddenly felt so solid. there was some sort of energy in the city he had never encountered before...snapping out of his thoughts, he looked over at the stranger. “i’m so sorry,” he repeated nervously, visibly relaxing as he noticed she seemed alright enough. two seconds in new york and he already sent some poor girl flying to the ground. “am i okay? i should be asking you that. are you okay?” he laughed almost hysterically, getting to his feet and running a hand through his perpetually ruffled hair. “no it was so my fault. i’m spacey. i, uh, tell myself it’s a side effect of being dead.” sometimes, he liked to slip truths about him being a ghost into conversation. it was entertaining because people usually glossed over it and assumed it was a joke. he wished. he offered a hand to help her up and bit the inside of his mouth.

Just a casual walk, that’s all she wanted. Some peace and quiet– or as much peace and quiet as one could attain in New York. Unfortunately for Alice, that is not what she got. Some random person looking around the city, utterly dumbfounded, stepped in her bath and caused them both to crash into each other. The stranger went down, but Alice merely stumbled back, blinking in confusion before green orbs flickered down to the other figure. “Watch where you’re going,” she snapped.

for several moments, noah just stared as he sat on the ground, dumbfounded. this state was for two reasons. one: it wasn’t often people could see him. he’d quickly learned that only certain individuals could, although noah didn’t understand the why or how. whatever. two: this girl intimidated him. a lot. “i’m sorry,” he repeated again in a timid voice as he stood up, dusting off the nonexistent dust. he made special care to not make eye contact with the stranger. “i’ve never been to new york. it’s pretty.” he tried to remind himself this woman couldn’t do anything to him. “uh, this is new york…right?” might as well take advantage of being so solid, for however long it’d last.

as a ghost, noah was used to oddness. he had learned it was better not to question the afterlife. really all it could result in was stress or confusion. what was the point? so, when he was suddenly standing smack in the middle of a city...well he didn’t blink an eye. being dead was weird. "new york!” he breathed out, spinning in a circle and taking in the sights with wide eyes. it definitely looked bigger than it appeared on tv. “wow...” not used to being so solid, he was caught off guard when something suddenly bumped into him. while falling to the ground didn’t hurt per se, it definitely surprised him. “i’m sorry,” he mumbled reflexively.
