The stunning Wellington harbour and waterfront on an amazing Spring evening.
You can't beat Wellington on a good day. And today is going to be a VERY good day!
Architectural River Cruise. Chicago is such an amazing city with such a diverse range of building types - many more than New York. A few highlights - The Wrigley Building with Trump Tower in the background. The Trump Building was designed by the same guy who did the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and is doing the Kingtom Tower in Saudi Arabia.
The view from the top! Willis Tower aka Sears Tower. Was not brave enough to go on "The Ledge" - that is tge glass boxes that extend out so you can look at the street 1400ft below your feet! Great views though!
Trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. The submarine is U505 captured by the US Navy intact in 1944 and restored fully. Now displayed in a special exhibit.
Trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo on of the few zoo's left in the US that are free. Very nice zoo and the day was a massive turnaround from the day prior!
And what to do on a cold and snow filled day? Take the Green line to Garfield Park Conservatory where you can wander around nature fully under cover!
Well thanks to much of Chicago looking like this the Cubs game was cancelled! So had to do a few other things instead!
Oz Park - about 10 minutes from the hostel. What a difference a day makes! Beautiful yesterday and today cold and snowing! Don't think the Cubs game will be in today😫😫
The Sky Chappel - the highest church from pavement level in the world. It is part of The Chicago Temple a Methodist Church in the heart of the city. Amazing views but tiny inside!
Picasso sculpture in Daley Plaza.
🎶 Oh get you kicks, on route 66🎶
While not normally one to post food pics we did have lunch at the famous Lou Mitchell's Diner the original starting point of route 66. Kay had a Greek Sausage omelet with feta and me a Ruben open sandwich with corned beef, sauerkraut, 1000 island dressing and topped off with swiss cheese. Both amazing!
A few Chicago landmarks. The inside of The Rookery Building lobby, on of the first skyscrapers in Chicago and also one of the first buildings to use a metal internal frame with stone as the facade. LaSalle Street with the Chicago Board of Trade building (seen in both The Untouchables and The Dark Knight Rises). The Chicago Theatre, the Chicago River and Trump Tower Chicago.
The Chicago Library plus inside is the Chicago Cultural Centre. The highlight is the Tiffany Glass dome and like many older libraries, is basically a cathedral to books.
Millenium Park including the very unusual fountain that shows different faces projected onto large screens. Water not working yet!
More pics of The Bean and The Jay Pritzger Pavillion where in Summer they hold many free events from concerts to outdoor movies.
