Matina Noula, for the second consecutive year at the 42nd Athens Authentic Marathon, crossed the line 1st, racing the classic 42 km and breaking her personal record with 2:39:28, just 18 seconds off Maria Polyzou’s Panhellenic record from 1997! Zoe Andrikopoulou, despite a challenging week leading in, powered to 4th in the 10 km, breaking her personal record with 35:41, improving on last year’s 35:56.
In a race that carries 2,500 years of history, Matina and Zoe showed what true marathon spirit looks like, achieving outstanding performances!
“The marathon reminds us that the greatest things in life are earned with patience, discipline and love for the whole journey. Every kilometre is an inner contest of mind and body,” said Matina after the finish.
“To stand out in the marathon you need deep persistence and patience. Along with belief in yourself, these give you the inner resources to succeed,” Zoe highlighted, after breaking her personal record.
