GWAR on the Joan Rivers Show
Been doing some serious soul mining to understand my recent bout with anxiety and panic attacks. As usual, the answer wasn’t too obtuse - the past three months have been like getting reacquainted with an ex-lover. The person I remember before my addiction was always still there, but after nearly 15 years of neglect he’s obviously suffering. He needs love. He needs compassion. He needs understanding. Most importantly, he wants to be heard. I kept him silent with bags of white powder, endless cocktails until a full blackout, and some very unhealthy prolonged periods of self-hate fueled binging and purging. I’m listening Ryan, and you’re breaking my heart...I’m sorry I left you to entropy while I was consumed with narcissistic indulgence. I know that you are scared, hurt, ashamed, and thirsty for affection. I’m trying to give that to you, and I hope you can forgive me for the distress my addiction caused. One day I’ll be able to look in the mirror and be able to say “I love you,” but for now, the best I can do is say “I’m listening.”
