trigger warning: this is one of the more heavy chapters of the series, if youโre sensitive to, self harm, eating disorder, scars, throwing up, extreme emotional distress, or parent death, i would read with EXTREME caution.
Roryโs mam arrived about 10 minutes later. Rory led me up to his mamโs car, opened the door, and let me get in first before getting in the back next to me.
โHello, Nora, pet. Are you okay?โ
โIโm grand, Mrs. Kavanagh. Iโm really sorry for making you come out like this.โ
She tuts, โNonsense. Itโs no biggie.โ
Rory nudges my shoulder, โI told you she was fine with it.โ
maybe I was a little too nervous about Mrs. Kavanagh coming to pick us up, I just get in my head sometimes.
The ride to the Kavanagh manor was very peaceful.
It would never be like this in my car.
My father canโt keep his mouth shut for more than thirty seconds.
Speaking of da, heโs coming back from a 3 week-long business trip this evening.
I donโt really know how I feel about that.
Itโs been so peaceful at our house without him, with just me and my mam.
Before I knew it we had pulled up into the drive way of the Kavanaghโs very impressive house.
but our house was more modern.
This house is gorgeous, Iโve been here dozens of times and it still amazes me.
โIs your father home?โ
โYeah. Heโs probably in his study for something.โ Rory replied, stepping out the car.
โHe wonโt mind me coming here in the middle of the day?โ I ask as I accept Roryโs hand to help me out of Mrs. Kavanaghโs ridiculously tall range rover.
โNah, he doesnโt care. Youโve came over before.โ
โYeah, on the weekend. What if heโs working and we disrupt him?โ
Rory grabs our school bags before shutting the door. โEleanor.โ
โItโs fine. Youโre overthinking it.โ
And with that we went up the driveway to the door.
Rory pushed the door opened and stepped aside so I could go in first.
I go to take my shoes off, but he stops me, โYou donโt have to take your shoes off.โ
โYeah, weโll take them off later.โ
We, or well, Rory went to the kitchen and I had no choice but to follow him.
โMe and Nora are going to watch a film in the sitting room. Tell that to dad when he comes looking for me.โ
Rory grabbed two cokes out of the fridge and handed one to me.
I wasnโt supposed to drink soda on rehearsal days, which is every weekday, but it was really tempting, so I took it.
And we were off to the sitting room.
He grabbed the softest blanket Iโve ever seen off of the blanket ladder, and flopped down and patting the space next to him.
I sat down, way less dramatic than he did.
โWhatcha wanna watch?โ He asked, cracking open his coke, while scrolling through the tv.
โOh, it doesnโt matter to me.โ
โYou do this all the time.โ
โLeave all the decisions up to me.โ
โYou also say sorry a lot.โ
Well I didnโt have an answer for that.
My first thought was to say sorry, but then I thought about what he said and that just would be stupid.
โIโll like anything you like.โ He tries to comfort me by saying.
โI donโt really watch movies.โ
โDo you want to watch Avatar?โ
โSure. Iโve never watched it.โ
โYouโve never watched Avatar?โ
โWell youโll like it.โ
He found Avatar on some streaming service, then wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me to his side.
โDonโt be shy to tell me if you get hungry or something, okay?โ
โGood girl.โ He grinned down at me.

We are an hour into the movie when my mam called.
and thatโs the exact moment my whole life changed.
