"Yes," said Smyke "That's your arm. the one you write with!" Then he turned my friend's head in another direction. Standing on a pedestal was a tall, thin jar of some clear fluid, and immersed in it was a neatly severed leg. "And that's one of your legs," said Smyke. The left one, I think."

The people doing the "Dreaming Books" graphic novel looked at that description, and went "Nope, not drawing this."

"Island of the Thousand Lighthouses" fanart, because the Quaquappa fits the prompt perfectly, and it deserves some appreciation for making Hildegunst realize that he has a type. Like who reads about a murderous sea demon and thinks "Awww, just like my dead friend the Shadow King"

He calls it majestic and beautiful by the end of the book, he really has a type. I would honestly love to see the Quaquappa again, maybe it too can have some (traumatic) adventures in Bookholm? I was about to make a "This sign can't stop me, because I can't read" joke, but it can in fact read and write

And dammit, drawing Hildgunst is such a struggle, I haven't tried drawing dragons for a decade at least. Why is everything from Zamonia so hard to draw?

Tho it sounds less like cat hissing, and more like the way certain scorpions/cockroaches/cicadas hiss when they feel threatened. a whole ass adventure novel about Colophonius!! also im not gonna lie, i'd LOVE to read more about Homuncolossus's past life as a human, but part of what makes his backstory so compelling is the fact that we DON'T get to learn more about it. we know as much as Hilde does, and Hilde knows as much as Homuncolossus decided to share. also to hell with it, give me "Der Ritter Hempel", i wanna see if i can get past the first 100 pages of the introduction to the spear care chapter!!!! also, how about an art history manual about the work of Hagob Saldaldian??!!

🫎 : A take you think the fandom isn't ready for?

i think our fandom is ready for anything….. we stay unfazed but become agitated in a second when it matters most. i'm proud to say that i genuinely think the people in this fandom are very 1) chill 2) cool 3) adaptable 4) accepting. for example, we all agree that Moers's writing isn't always perfectly unproblematic, as well as we all agree that the lack of female characters in his works is catastrophic, and that the ones that get any mentions usually exist to accompany some male character or to be his "destined girl". we're not a very drama-prone fandom!!

i'm not really thalassophobic, but the thoughts of the Zamonian Sea and the SS Moloch plying its waters make my skin crawl. i often think of the illustration from Captain Bluebear, the one where Bluebear is sitting on top of his little raft while the ship, enormous and horrible, passes by. so cool!!!

i honestly can't name any because in this fantastic fandom (which is so very small!) it seems like almost every minor character that might have been called "underrated" is especially loved and appreciated by someone!! 😭

WHAT HAPPENED WITH "THE CASTLE OF THE DREAMING BOOKS". I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE IN THIS BUT LIKE. WHAT HAPPENED WITH THIS BOOK???? the author's afterword in the Russian edition of "the Labyrinth…" mentions something along the lines of "welp, it was initially supposed to be one HUGE book, but i did not manage to finish it on time, so my editor suggested we split the rest of the story in two parts because i still need some time, and you, my dear reader, deserve to have a decent book". but it's been… it's been so long??? more than 10 years, i think?? i remember the time when the placeholder for "the Castle…" on Amazon mentioned October 2015 or something like that. so... did Moers lose passion? did he feel like whatever plottwists he had planned for the final part were not working anymore BUT there was also no going back since the 2nd part was already published, so now "the Castle…" is sort of stuck in a limbo?? or do i not give Moers enough credit and he actually knows what he's doing??? point being, if i could ask some omniscient entity just one question, i would probably ask them what happened to Moers in the process of writing "the Castle…". AND (okay, just 2 questions) if we're ever getting this book at all….. i mean, i still have hope but oh how i'd love to be a fly sitting on the wall in Moers's house..... like man at least show us the drafts PLEASE

Homuncolossus is not DEAD dead and is supposed to show up in "the Castle…". some might say it's a canon-hill but we need to get that third book for it to be true….. there's also an incredible theory by @/bonyarishitafuan in which they mention a lot of discussable points concerning the main mystery of the 2nd book!! 🙏
