That scene in Golden Sands where MC and Rafayel are waiting around a campfire before going to the ruins where Rafayel knows he's going to severe their connection makes me so sad bc MC is SO desperate for his affection but he's just a wall that rebuffs all her attempts bc he knows this is one of their last moments together and he has to maintain that distance for his own sanity.
She won't remember any of this, but Rafayel will.
She won't remember the cold and asking for warmth, but he'd remember every detail of what holding her felt like if he'd relented and cuddled, so he doesn't. She won't remember the story he'd tell if he relented and told her one, but he'd remember every reaction on her face and know he can't be near her anymore and the memories would just be small needles digging into his heart, so he doesn't create them.
But while he's going through all this MC is in the present and lonely while he's off in the bleak future, so she keeps finding another excuse to try and get his attention and then another when that one doesn't work. She's miserable after a day of travel and walking (probably in some pain too) and all she needs to feel better is for Rafayel to give her even a sliver of affection, but he has the magnitude of what he has to do in a few hours heavy on his shoulders and he can't give it to her, so they're both just MISERABLE. It's so sad!!

the most #UselessLesbian thing i have ever done was when i was trying to figure out if this girl liked me or not, just constantly arguing with myself about it, and after a couple, uh, months, of this, i was like, “god i wish i could just like… go to court and lay out all this evidence and have a couple lawyers argue over the TRUE MEANING of her text messages, and then a judge tells me if she likes me or not.” and then the proverbial lightbulb went off over my proverbial head, and i dug into my mock trial folder from high school and found the trial guidelines and i wrote out an entire trial transcript featuring a plaintiff (me), my attorney (my wildest hopes and dreams), a defense attorney (my worst fears and insecurities), and a judge (my desperate attempt at rationality). the final product was several thousand words long. it clarified nothing. at any point in this process did it occur to me to ask her how she felt about me? absolutely not. did i ever stop and think, “hey, maybe i should tell her that i like her?” absolutely not. that’s for people who take risks and i don’t take risks i take myself to court in my own head.
Get you a girl who speaks in parentheses. Get you a girl who includes information in a sentence that isn't necessary but adds additional context or commentary.
hate when you find a character whose so infuriatingly Your Type that its embarrassing like yeahg no one is gonna be surprised when i announce this is my new Guy Of The Month
