CHOMICHUK ONLINE CLASSROOM EXPERIMENT

Currently an ethical exploration of the nature of humanity exploring the themes and notions of the Czech play R.U.R by Karel Čapek from 1920. This play was the origin of the concept of the 'Robot' and questioned the notions and hidden costs of a stratified society. Previously an exploration of the play Macbeth led by their teacher Mr. Chomichuk and two groups of high school students intent on creating a different ending than The Bard intended.   Professional Art is subjective. It is narrow-minded to say of professional gallery work “this art is good and this art is bad. “ Professional artist develop their intent and skills over years of training ( self-taught or otherwise).  Art at the professional level is judged by intent and delivery.

But learning is a process of attempt and failures, reflections and new attempts.  Learning to make art is about exposure to new ideas and new ways to doing things. Learning to make art requires skill building and community.

Term Assessments:

Theme/ Topic : The ability to represent an idea which corresponds to a specific theme or topic. These can be teacher directed or student directed.

Authenticity 20%

  Visual Elements 20%

Judicious use of the Elements of Art ( Line Shape Texture Color Form Space) Principles of Design ( Balance gradation Repetition Contrast Harmony Dominance Unity)

  Technique 20%

Mastery of the techniques used. Students are never judged against a common example, but instead their early and later work are compared and improvement is measured.  Always try you best and it will always show over time.

  Interpretation 20%

The ability to express one’s ideas and communicate the desired emotion or content.

    Critical Process 20%

The ability to perceive and talk about ideas, visual elements, techniques and strategies in one’s own work. This is the ability to make a plan and stick to it.

  Final Examination:

There is a final exam worth 20% of the Term: Students will have access to the information in their Student Folders for the Exam. It is a cumulative examination that requires a working knowledge of the skills and topics covered in class discussions and skill workshops.  Students will be asked to demonstrate their understanding of the various techniques and ideas covered through the semester.
