"Hey, man...! Raqio, what the hell?! Do I look like an alien to you?!"
i'll take a break today since i went to a con and it ended up being too much for me... so instead i have a question:
do you know any characters that can't/don't speak a lot or cover their ears in some way?
any source media and gender is fine!
i actually get verbal shutdowns and i can't really avoid or help them. but using headphones or something other to block noise can make things more comfortable for me. i love cosplaying and i've thought that i could try cosplaying a character that could make me feel more comfortable about being myself. i've already thought about kukrushka and raqio and inumaki (jjk) but i'd like to find more characters!

THIS!!!!! ^^^^
Oh hey that's me. I got peer reviewed. If you'll permit me to yap more on the subject, I think the stand out moments to me of getting to see her lonelier side are, the Chaos event in game (obviously), along with the anime version of the 0 Gnosia party & those scenes with her watching the fish in the fish tank. (which I cannot for the life of me find what episode that was in) The Chaos event has this line from Yuriko: "SQ gave them to me. She said that changing one's clothes would change one's spirits." (about the outfit she's wearing in the event) which, pretty clearly indicates that 'changing one's spirit' is something she is open to, if not actively seeking. But also, regardless of what the player goes to say regarding her clothes, she cuts them off. Which, at least to me, also indicates a degree of... self consciousness? Raqio for example would have either acted completely natural or turned the situation around on you for thinking it's weird. The fact that Yuriko preemptively shuts you down before you can even really say anything, positive or negative, shows that she's not as confident in herself as she likes to appear. And speaking of the costume SQ gives her, in the anime it's much more overtly a trick on SQ's part, claiming that the celebration party was a costume party. But the notable part of it isn't that SQ lied, she does love getting silly with it, but that Yuriko went along with it regardless of it's veracity.
Again, this indicates that either she was fully on board with participating in a costume party, or that she was unwilling to be 'the odd one out', showing either a willingness to let loose, or a nervousness about adhering to social norms. Given her behaviour I'm more inclined towards the second option? She reads as a touch nervous when she enters, at least to me. Also of note is that she was at the party at all. The fact that Raqio didn't attend at all and Kukrushka seemingly dipped quite early says that attendance wasn't mandatory or anything, which means she chose to come, and even to remain after SQ's trick. Again, she proves surprisingly willing to socialize. And finally, the fish tank scenes. In both shots she's leaning against the glass, and in the second one, she taps the glass and the nearby fish swim away. If you subscribe to the theory that the fish are representative of the D.Q.O's various passengers, there's a LOT of symbolism here (she's watching the others wistfully through a window, and when she reaches out, they swim away) but even if you don't... it's still a really lonely scene tbh? She has this kind of sad expression, and she's standing on her own watching fish rather than talking to any of the other people on the ship. Honestly this scene more than any of the others I mentioned made me realize how isolated she feels? In conclusion, I think Yuriko is a deeply lonely, unsure person, who uses a mask of superiority to hide her insecurities and longing for a more intimate connection with her peers. (I have wayyyy more examples of things that I think match up with this btw. I could yap for ages about the subtleties of Yuriko's characterization)
