I need help on what do to when the ball comes high i know im suppose to walk backwards and catch it but i cant seem to get that on my mind any suggestions on what to do?
Hi there! this is also a problem that I've struggled with for a while as well, so don't worry, a lot of keepers (especially females) have this problem.
What I've been working on is practicing the back step without a ball. So take a few cones and map out five or so yards and just work on cross stepping backwards without a ball. Make sure to keep your body facing forward, head and hands up as if you were really about to catch a ball. Once you have become comfortable with a quick backward cross over, add a jump at the end, just like you were about to catch it. You can then add a ball by having a coach or friend hold the ball in front of you then loft it over your head, forcing you to make the movement and catch the ball.
Just remember, it is a lot easier to get back as fast as you can then come forward than to get caught reaching backwards! Hopefully this helps, and good luck in your season! If you have any more questions, Rowan and I are here!
Hannah.
