CERYS. I just rambled at @ghostpillow about this, but there’s a very good reason behind my URL. Qasim starts out as a very caring, kind individual, but the longer he spends in Cishran’s temple, the more time he spends with Aizhan, the more corrupt he becomes. He gets jealous of the gods, especially since, with his friendship with the goddess of winter, he knows that they’re really not too different from humans - at least as far as personality and temperament go. They just have longer lives.

This is how he sees it, at least.

The more jealous he grows, the easier it is for Scrios to sway Qasim to his side. Scrios promises something he can’t give to get the head priest to listen; divinity. The promise he gives is that, once the other gods have been overthrown and killed, Qasim will be the next god of fire and summer, and the ruler of K’aak’Kab. There is no way for a human to ascend to divinity in Ionope, which Qasim knows, but he falls for the lie anyway.

In the end, Scrios tosses Qasim away like a broken toy, to drown in the sands of the K’aak’Kaban deserts, his soul to wander for eternity, never to find rest in the lands beyond.
