bruce is my son my boy my child. on this blog we write the batman bruce, but he’s also sort of an animated series inspired bruce like.. heavily????
bruce is autistic. he experiences severe cognitive overload but also feels almost physically in pain when he is not stimulated. he is an introvert who is not good with people and is even worse at talking to them. he never quite knows how to stand or what to say. he isn’t great at connections. but he wants them. he loves them. he comes to find joy in the family he eventually fosters because it makes him feel like he makes his parents proud this way (and that is the core of his being — the desire to make his parents proud is both a positive and a negative).
he experiences fluctuating empathy, and though he is largely low empathy, he is extremely attached to the emotions of those he cares for deeply and is easily overwhelmed when actively empathizing. his mindscape is vivid and difficult and complicated and often changing and unreliable.
a number of tbi’s he’s suffered through the years in addition to his debilitating sleep habits leave bruce with a deeply faulty memory. the journals he keeps are an effort to retain continuity in his own life, to straighten out the dark shadows that twist and contort in the bleary, lost landscape of his memory. his journal is vital to his sanity and is written in erratic strokes by a hand shaking furiously across the page.
he likes to wear baggy sweats and tshirts but cleans up impeccably, every bit his father’s son. bruce is taught to seem timeless, and it reflects in his suits and his cars. he drives a classic beemer that belonged to his father, his batgear rattles in its trunk. he wants to be unremarkable but must maintain an appropriate appearance (he has to make his parents proud and when the dead can’t speak it’s easy to make up nonexistent expectations)
he is very kind and welcoming, if not very, very awkward and chokingly intense. he’s softspoken and often willing to entertain someone for longer than most people would when it comes to, say, harleen or even alana, who is a touch too misanthropic for him sometimes.
he does not emote, however, so you have to play a bit of a game trying to read how he feels. his resting expression is always an unreadable mask of exhaustion.
so like uh @wldfes you gotta remember first and foremost and it’s my fave fact: trish is capable of resisting kilgrave power partially. trish is kilgrave’d but fundamentally split in the kilgrave’d state. in order for a victim to maintain some agency it must be fundamentally against the core of their being. jess being forced to lose agency is against the core of her independence. trish being forced to bend to a man goes against the core of her need for safety from a position she swore she’d never be in again. in this, her awareness remains in tact. she is in the front seat and unable to react, so in her kilgrave’d state she cannot act, but she is also hellishly aware she is acting against her own desires. rachael’s acting and consistent trauma in that particular moment cements it, and trish’s eyes look absolutely desperate.
the i love you is a moment that she gets herself by on for a long time. when jess fucks up, she remembers that jess did the impossible: put her money where her mouth was. jess admitted the most important thing to the whole wide world and chose to actively almost die for her. she put herself in willing danger; she walked through fire for trish. she dreams about it. she thinks about it. when she feels every bit as lacking as that teenage kid did, she remembers, jess loves her.

“patsy!” dazzler exclaims as she roller-skates closer to the building the ledge of which the hellcat is perched on, then strategically vaults her way upwards, nothing impossible or even difficult for a singer who has been dabbling in acrobatics and freerunning for as long as she’s lived in this crazy city. “hi,” she asks, not at all out of breath despite all the catching it up it has taken to sit next to the superheroine, the mutant’s singer never faltering even a second. “how’s it goin’?”
there are few people permitted to refer to trish as patsy. openly. most words make her spine tingle, her hackles raise, most times she hears patsy and she briefly imagines mother, shrill and shrieking down the hall, patsy! but this is ali, this is dazzler, and the blonde’s mouth breaks into an enormous grin that recklessly chases from end to end.
“dazzy!” and she isn’t a nickname girl, that much is true (jess is the exception, as per), but with ali this is a different thing. she knows the familiarity of it turns her sunshine-warm. she scoots a bit closer, sharp teeth uncapped, mask concealing green eyes, “it’s a slow night. what about you? no good trouble to get into?”
