I have rewritten this post many times, I have lots of things to say that need to be said at least once. This will be a very egocentric post but if I know one thing after using someone as a faceclaim for the past 15 years, it is what they have done, can do and refuse do to.
Selena Gomez has been my faceclaim for the past 15 years. But I am not sure if I can continue using someones content who refuses to speak to her hundreds of millions of followers about the issues going on in the world. It is not her silence that baffles me, it is her selective activism. Gomez has given her Instagram to the black community during the entirety of the Black History month. Gomez has shared posts about the Ukraine. Gomez has talked about mental health time and time again. For someone who keeps repeating that she likes to use her platform 'for good', this seems to not include the genocide of the Palestinians. Clearly, she knows how to use her platform; for whatever reason, she refuses to. She did sign the open letter urging for cease fire, I just don't know if that is enough. I genuinely believe that it is wrong treating those who have stayed silent the same as we treat those who are Pro-Israel. The former can still be educated, the latter not so much. I may or may not still use her, but, dear reader, see this as sign to rethink your decisions, too.
And another thing, I understand that it can be scary logging into the one place where you seek comfort, and where you wish to flee from the real world. But it is an absolute privilege to be able to do so. We should not feel at ease, when we know that hundreds of thousands of people are being promised safety, only to be killed where they seek it. Fakevz has always been political. It will always be political. It is our duty not only as adults, but as free and safe people to bring awareness to those who are not free and safe.
If you are Pro-Israel, or if you are against fakevz being a platform to bring awareness to the sufferings in this world, please go ahead and block me.
