sam had never considered himself a savior per se. sam the slayer, mighty as that sounded, was but a cheeky title he obtained in what, in retrospect, felt like a simple matter of luck. had the dragonglass not worked its magic, he would have probably not been alive to tell the tale in the first place. he wouldn't have even tried to fight his way out, he would've just accepted his fate. but alas, ser piggy survived, and now was subjected to an even greater challenge: a beautiful lady asking him to dance.
and not any lady, mind you, but one margarean tyrell.
such a gorgeous face was not one samwell could forget, even with the mask consealing it. the reach would always bring bitter memories to samwell, but the beauty of its residents was not to be denied. a flush tainted his round cheeks, his hand taking that of the tyrell with gentle care. hopefully, they would not remember that was randyll tarly's fat disgrace of a son.
"o-of course, my lady." should he bow? he was a black brother, he was not meant to bow before any noble person any longer. and yet, he remembered every lesson his mother taught him, how to act and behave in grand balls and feasts like that he found himself in. and wasn't that the reason why he was sent down in the first place? he bowed. "if i may take you to dance, it would be an honour."
* 🏵️ — “ how kind of you , my lord — " my lady , the lord had said . but margaery was renly ' s queen , now . for all the good it did either of them . perhaps the mask had fooled him . good . it ' s easier that way . his head tilted as he spoke , curls brushing the pale curve of his mask , eyes gleaming with curiosity at the man before him . he seemed sweet . if a little uncertain . there was something almost familiar in him : not in face , but in manner ; a gentleness that stirred old memories of willas . oh , how he would have hated all of this had he attended . his smile curved . " my apologies . . . it seems to me -- have we met before ? ”
“ come , ” he said lightly , stepping closer to the man as the bards started the next song . “ — before my erstwhile suitor finds his courage again . ”
