Reblog if you agree.
I live as far away from the US as possible, safely and comfortably making pins from Melbourne, Australia. But even though I have had the luxury of watching this presidency unfold from a great distance, I am not unmoved. For as long as I can remember I have always worried about the world’s many sadnesses, and as the egos of white men in power continue to dominate, I become more and more anxious. I see POC, trans and queer people fear for their safety, on both a large scale and in my day to day life, as many of the people I love belong to one oppressed minority or another. I am not an American citizen. I am not well versed in American politics or American law, and I don’t pretend that impeachment will fix all our problems. What I am is an empathetic human, a woman, a Jewish person descended from Holocaust survivors, an intersectional feminist, a person who has struggled with depression, a person who has had brain surgery, someone who, were I living in America, would have had many of my personal freedoms impacted, and I want to be on the right side of history in changing that, in whatever way I can. I don’t always have the physical or mental energy to be present at rallies and protests, I don’t always have the emotional capacity to engage in dead-end discussions, and I don’t have the knowledge on what it takes to singlehandedly change the world. But when @pinlord called out for us humble pin makers to design a pin that would bind us together and donate proceeds to the ACLU, I knew that was something I could be a part of. President 45 is a racist, sexist, egomaniacal abuser, and I want to build a future without him or men like him at the wheel. I want a future where my ambiguously brown children feel safe, where my friends with wombs can access birth control and their right to choose, where the genitals you were born with do not affect your human rights, where police don’t get away with murder, where we haven’t destroyed our planet. I know I can’t make all that happen with art. But for me, it’s a good place to start. If you want 45 out of the Whitehouse, I encourage you to wear your opinion on your lapel and buy my pin at littlestarthings.com, or any of the other pins from the amazing group of creators in this project. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the @aclu_nationwide. It’s up to us, not the people in power, to build the future that we want.
