Grizz is suspicious right off the bat. He is not one to give out his number - even to his most loyal of workers. In fact, he really only uses his phone for absolute emergencies. It had almost been a year since he last heard the thing ring.
“ Sorry, don’t hire over the phone. You gotta come in. “ Grizz responds, sounding more annoyed and grumpy than usual. Whoever this is, if he ends up hiring them he’s cutting their pay right off the bat for pulling this sort of stunt… but something tells him this person is someone he doesn’t want to hire in the first place.
“ Huh. ” And there’s a long expanse of silence. He wasn’t sure where he was going with this, actually. Was he toying with Grizz? Did he genuinely want to apply and see what it was like from this side? Who knew. “ Right, then, ” he finally added, drumming his fingers against the payphone. “ Uh... when would work for you? It’s for a girl, ” he clarified, wondering if that was a believable excuse. Mostly he’d heard boys yelling about impressing fellow female Salmon Runners, so he guessed it was.
He twined the payphone cord around one hand, teasing it against scaly fingernails. “ Sooner’s better’n later for me though. ”
