Just so you know;

I have seen a lot of Gaza and Palestine related calls for help in the last few months that I have used tumblr. Unfortunately, some of these people who are calling are bots and/or scammers using AI to con your money. I’ve seen about two so far (if I can find them again…)

Bot callers will;

Reblog a dumb amount of posts; Look for an account that has a lot of reblogs of roughly related content that has a certain keyword. If the account is a reblog-only account and they have seperated it from their calls, it’s most likely legit.

Make many calls at once in a single day, most likely within a few minutes. Blatant reveal that they are using a macro or bot software.

Legitimate calls for help are clear, consistent, and easy to read. They do not beg you for money, or shove links down your throat. They do not sound like chatGPT wrote them, and they don’t look like a garbled, plain text mess.

For those who are not in the know, Tumblr has released an ""update"" of sorts that is more rapid enshittification as per the usual. This change seems minor but is extreme when you think more on it: * You will be able to reblog, reply and like from ANY reblogged post, this reblog or etc will go directly to that reblog, losing metrics and potentially triggering reblog stealing This is why this is bad. * There are a grand many askblogs, this will completely remove the capacity for long-form reply-like threads using the reblog function. this new feature, currently, has nuked the entirety of these and i have been witnessing people delete accounts entirely and switch to Bluesky. (i will be doing this to, as this was originally a askblog focused account.) * "reblog please", and other methods of gaining traction are effectively useless with this new feature, as reblog stealing is now a thing, and will most likely boost these stealers instead. this is a major concern for almost everyone with a tumblr gimmick blog, along with artists and other designers

update genuinely so doodoo ass. if you reblog from ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL POST, this includes reblogs without additions, INCLUDING SELF-REBLOGS, IT DOESN'T ADD TO THE TOTAL REBLOG COUNT. FOR SOME REASON. AND YOU CAN'T EVEN VIEW THE ONES WITH TAGS UNDER THE REBLOG TAB ANYMORE WHICH IS LIKE HALF THE FUN OF TUMBLR!!!!

literally the only way to see the true reblog count atm is loading all reblogs in the reblog graph which is the most inconvenient shit ever. roll it back, tumblr, good lord. I'm seeing posts that in reality have like 6k reblogs only visibly having like 100 because of this, that's a SEVERE cutdown of notes

Anon here. A little ask I have is can you please remove the frans tag from your latest post so it doesn't show up on the tag feed for it. besides the fact that i've already had access to the communities feature in forever (so now that they're officially "announcing" it i'm just here like 'oh i thought that was always a thing' lol) i think the whole "appeal" of communities that tumblr is trying to sell is really funny

and it's like hmmmmmbutwe'veliterallyalwayshadtheabilitytodothat, it's called the literal tagging system that the site has freaking built on ?? 💀😆 but now even worse because apparently OP's aren't notified when their posts get shared to communities so they don't get to see the engagement or reactions or whatnot to their posts, which sucks because reblogging stuff is literally the best way to engage with stuff you like (i love seeing the tags in reblogs of my art, esp when it's like that one person doing a marathon of my gallery and reblogging each piece and leaving little comments and compliments, you're the real MVP) and communities will constrain visibility for both the OP's own content as well as the people in their own tag circle

but it could also create that nasty echo chamber effect where discussions are "privatized" to only include people in those groups and exclude anyone who doesn't conform to the "inside rules", so you don't get other opinions from other people coming across the discussion like they would with tags ???
