Study based on one of the photos in this challenge.
❶&❷ My first attempt. Timed to one hour. Thought I'd try B&W rendering this time because of how badly the color attempt went with the other study, but it still turned out pretty bad. ❸ Corrections. ❹ Attempt #2 ❺ "Reconstruction" from memory. Don't like this one quite as much as the previous one, but I think it looks a lot better than my other attempts at this particular shot
Study based on one of the photos in this challenge. ❶ My first attempt. Timed to one hour. I had made an attempt at painting/rendering it, but it looked terrible so I just decided to stick with the sketch. Actual drawing time on this one was probably only like 20 min. ❷ Corrections. I overlayed the photo with the study and made some notes on things to adjust in a second attempt. (To be clear the red lines aren't traced, they're just visually referenced—I had the overlay up on another screen. Obviously there's nothing wrong with tracing to mark out things to work on like this when doing studies, that's just not how I did it here is all!) ❸ A second attempt. I don't think I timed this one. ❹ This one is like a "reconstruction" from memory. I glanced at my sketches and the photo a couple times before starting, but the objective here was to do a more constructed piece vs one from observation. The lineart's still trash, but I actually like how it came out.
Same sort of thing as the previous post. This was basically an attempt at refining one of the characters I designed here to practice rendering and possibly try learning L2D with.
This was a revisiting of one of the characters from here in an attempt at 1) improving my rendering skills (spoiler: still bad) and 2) making a model to try learning L2D rigging since it seems interesting (no I'm not trying to become a vtuber myself). I think it turned out pretty decent, but ultimately I think the rendering style I used (attempted) reads very poorly at a distance. She looks much better in closeups.
Art I did for MangaGamer's 2023 April Fools project. It wasn't supposed to be this extensive, but I hadn't had any time to draw in months so I went a little overboard. I did both of these in about a week. A friend colored the character "sprites" for me for the final version since I thought mine (the one in this post) looked like shit.
PNGtuber avatar I did for a friend. I was pretty short on time and still very uncomfortable with CSP when I worked on it, so I think it came out a bit sloppy. No offense to said friend but his prompt was extremely vague so I don't think I quite captured what he actually wanted.
Some character designs from last year while I was trying to learn Clip Studio and messing around with the symmetry ruler. They're based on some ancient designs of mine from college.
~General Update~
Since Twitter is on its last legs, I figured that should serve as good motivation to finally make an effort to catalogue some of my art stuff in a more appropriate place than just slapping it up on Twitter. Apologies if you followed this blog a million years ago for the like handful of genga gifs I posted like a decade ago. I recommend checking out sakugabooru if you're not already familiar with it.
I privated my old posts just to clean things up a bit. Anyway, expect some post spam while I find things to put up here.
