Being a Veterinary Technician (eventually)
I AM… (or will eventually be haha)
A nurse, an anesthesiologist, a nutritionist, an x-ray technician, a phlebotomist, a lab technician, a surgical assistant, a physical therapist, a pharmacy technician, a teacher, a midwife, a dental hygienist, a janitor, a mortician and much more. I am a jack-of-all-trades. I am a loving hand, a shoulder to cry on, a friend to cry with, a sucker for a furry face, a lover of all pets, a face to lick, a vet’s best friend, a pet’s best friend, a babysitter, a playmate, a chew toy, a protector. As a veterinary technician I play many roles - but do it all for the love of the animals.
I CAN… Safely restrain and handle animals, perform emergency, intensive and basic nursing care, administer medications, fill drug orders, induce and maintain anesthesia, perform tracheal intubation, assist with surgical procedures, expose and develop radiographs, collect blood, place catheters, perform diagnostic lab procedures, manage nutrition, educate clients and the public, clean teeth, clean anything!
I HAVE… A strong stomach, a big heart, a thoughtful mind, an observant nature, the strength to do the right thing even when it hurts, the ability to fall in love within seconds, and the deepest love for all creatures.
Please take notes. For those of you not in the veterinary world, you do not realize how much techs do!
