Rewatched TLJ. Came up with own shitty story
The Rey storyline proceeds as as written.
There is fuel for 1.5 jumps. They could jump the second time, but they’d explode.
Cockpit blows out. Leia literally force pulls the amosphere inside. Ackbar survives but Leia, drained, collapses. Ackbar names Holdo as vice admiral. Poe and Holdo have that talk where she shits on him for being a hotheaded shit.
Poe sends Fin for that mission but he also notices that there are some weird encrypted transmissions from the ship to the First Order. He begins to suspect that there might be a spy on the ship.
Fin goes to casino land and finds Lando as the code breaker. They try to convince him, he doesn’t want to go because hey, he’s having fun. Then when they are caught, he decides to have a heart (kinda like in Cloud City)
All the while, we look back at the Resistance and see Poe noticing Holdo is acting suspicious. Moving around the engineering sector, coms etc. He suspects she is the spy. She tells him to mind his own business etc.
Lando and Fin and what’s-her-face board the ship and disable the hyperspace tracking. On board the resistance ship, Ackbar orders a final jump to a location which Holdo gives (which is that planet they end up on)
They think they’re safe. Then BAM FIRST ORDER BITCHES. Poe tracks Holdo to the launch bays where she is ordering everyone to get to transports. He and his buddies confront Holdo, accusing her of treason. They are about to arrest her when Leia shows up (like in the show, but not in the cockpit)
The crew are all awed by Leia’s presence, but suddenly, one of the crew whips out his blaster to shoot Leia! It’s the spy! He tries to shoot Leia but Holdo takes the hit so we get to make sure Holdo dies.
Lando arrives back on the Resistance ship with Fin. He sees Leia and looks around asking for Han. She looks down, sad, and Lando gets it. They share a moment because despite Leia being the most badass person in SW, she is still hurting.
Back to the action! The resistance have to run the gauntlet, and get to the planet, but how are they gonna do it?! Leia sends them all away, but as she is about to lure the first order away, since she’s betting Kylo will want to go after her, Ackbar appears behind her.
Ackbar:“You best get on your transport General, they may wait for you, but they won’t wait that long"
L:"Admiral, no, I have seen too many lives lost to protect mine. I won’t let you-"
A:"You are noble, Princess, but I think the resistance needs hope more than an admiral with no ships"
L:"Stop it. I’m not a princess anymo-"
Ackbar gets down and kneel.
A:"From Rebellion to Republic to Resistance and forever more, you will always be, The Princess."
They embrace and Ackbar goes to Light Speed himself into the fleet while the resistance escapes. Then y’know, back to the original plan, minus the whole “called everyone from the outer rim but they didn’t make it in 5 minutes”
