Jaden can't handle confrontation or think on his feet, plus he wasn't expecting Nick to show up, so I'm not surprised that he crumbled the way he did. Also, Jaden would never admit to this, but it sounds like Nick constantly verbally derided him, so Jaden is probably a bit traumatised by their time together and being confronted by him again probably put him in flight mode.
