A lot of Pokemon news going around lately. A while back my friends were having a conversation about “what type” we would be as Pokemon, and they said I’d be a Water/Psychic. This was pretty fun, maybe one day I’ll get around to fully body versions.

I had a lot of fun with my previous Zelda inspired picture, but one of the things that stood out to me was how quickly I knocked it out. I did not take the best approach or plan very much I just went for it and I still really liked the results. Which reminded me of a fantasy themed Nintendo project I had started and abandoned years ago that I spent what seems like an eternity drawing each character and not really being satisfied. So I decided to redo some of my old designs for comparison. My art still isn’t totally where I want it to be, but it’s cool to see how far I’ve come. Here’s my variations on Mario and Link as a blacksmith and his apprentice
I’m pretty stoked for the new Link’s Awakening remake on the way.
I think Link’s Awakening on the original Gameboy is the first video game I ever beat on my own, and it oddly played a big role in my developing sense of self esteem. There have been a lot of Zelda games and a lot of Links, and I understand Hyrule is the heart of this series, but the island of Koholint and the story of the Wind Fish will always have a special place in my heart
Back in February, the daffodils in my front yard bloomed on my birthday and stayed around just long enough to make it to the end of the month. I’ve been thinking about this spring themed self portrait ever since and just now got around to finishing. I leaned a lot on some of my favorite Van Gogh’s for this one
Another set of Super Smash themed goblins. The Ice Gobs I did before was a pretty literal interpretation of the characters, I thought it would be fun to take some more liberties with these guys, so here’s the Pokemon Trainer team as goblins.
A lil late to the party, but this year for Goblin Week I decided to re-imagine some of my favorite Smash Bros. characters as goblins. So here are my beloved Ice Climbers. Once upon a time I was one of the worst Smash players I knew and to cope with that I developed a very important skill when it comes to video games, I decided to play just for fun. As a result of that novel idea I ended up adopting these orphaned characters because I knew my friends would never choose them, and they were good to me. They’re quirky and spunky and easily underestimated, they were there for me when I needed a little pick-me up to keep on playing and for that... thank you Ice Climbers, even when Nana can’t do her one job and throw me the rope when I ask, I still love you.
The other lion king, the most underrated Christmas icon, King Moonracer! I heavily leaned on some references for this one, but It’s been a minute since I’ve drawn something cool and I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out. Merry Christmas!

“Gotta eat to live” The Disney crossover I never knew I wanted. Inspired by a recent blog post of mine
After my previous post of Jack Kirby inspired art I tried to adapt that technique for some of my other characters in a style that’s different from my usual. I need to get more comfortable using solid blacks.
I had a weird Jack Kirby-esque dream the other night, both in plot and in character design. I sat down to draw one of the characters and then I realized it’s goblin week, so I drew a Kirbyish goblin instead! I’m not great at the whole heavy inks, dark-darks thing, but I’m pretty satisfied with how this project turned out.
Is it too late to make an Inktober post? These are long passed due...
Merry Christmas
This started as a design commission for a friend of mine, the final product ended up going in a very different direction, but I liked it too much to just throw it away, so here’s a spooky diptych Happy Halloween!
I’m pretty stoked with how these turned out, here’s each of the sibs taking on some kind of absurd challenge. I’m seeing now some Yakko, Wakko, and Dot similarities and I’m trying to remember if I did it on purpose... Anyway, there’s a few more in the pipeline (even though this is the last day of October) so hopefully I’ll get those finished and posted soon
Trying to squeak out some last minute Inktober pieces, I decided to revive some characters from an old story idea I’d been tinkering with a few years ago to use as my theme. The premise involved a group of odd couple (trio) siblings who find a dimension traveling house and go on a variety of adventures through the multiverse. Sort of a Dr. Who meets Adventure Time vibe Some more to come, probably not 30 days worth, but some
Finally! A little more than a month ago I had a surreal dream about this weird boat (that may also be a magical submersible?). I woke up and thought, “Hey that’s interesting, I should draw that,” then an eternity later, here it is.
I thought I’d sit down, do a little experiment in style, a couple hours of drawing later and I’d have a neat project done, but this piece has touched on all my weaknesses, intricate clean lines, scenery, perspective. Some blobby mountains turned into a canyon wall, a little bush turned into a jungle, it’s like I was trying to torture myself.
Overall I’m pretty pleased with it, but even after all that time I still feel like it just needs one more detail, but I know that would go on indefinitely, so out of the nest you go, here it is. Hope you like it.
