Cubicle

Cubicle is a typology of communication between women in a personal space. This series of photographs examines disparate ideas such as public and private, transience and permanence, concealment and openness. What prompts someone to leave a message? What are the common themes of these messages? How does the anonymity of the author effect what they write? These are questions to consider while viewing Cubicle.

Stranger Than Fiction: Tamam Shud

In 1948 a man was found dead on an Adelaide beach. Well-dressed and unmarked, he had a half-smoked cigarette by his side, but no documents of identification. Several decade later, we still do not know who he was, how he got there or how he died. Somerton Man remains one of Australia’s most mysterious cold cases.

This series plays with the perception of photography as the medium for documenting absolute truth. A crime scene photo’s chief purpose is to present an image of something exactly as it existed so that it may aid police officers and courts in piecing together a story which will, in turn, lead them to a solution.

What happens when those photos have been staged and manipulated? What kind of story will we be told? What can we create when so many of the puzzle pieces still seem to be missing? All we have to go on is one man, one beach, one suitcase, one poem and one pocket’s worth of belongings.
