Okay, so yesterday afternoon we had a double earthquake (7.2 and 7.5 with multiple aftershocks) in Venezuela. Fortunately, the place where I live wasn't affected, but Caracas and other states near the epicenter did suffer building collapses, and people are still missing.

Many people lost their homes, and a state of alert was declared today (yesterday we even had the possibility of a tsunami, which thankfully is no longer present). Venezuela doesn't have the resources to recover, and the total losses are still unknown... please pray for us, we need it.

the onboarding for this new job is so disorganized. I’m trying not to worry about it. I did my part to move things along. it wouldn’t be my fault if my start date got delayed. it would be a dream come true if I received another offer from a different application. I would ghost my new employers so quick. from the insulting pay scale and the abysmal communication to lying about fair trade and sustainability practices, I wouldn’t even feel bad.

the reason people "have trouble reading" or finish a book and then go months without reading anything even though they want to read is that people approach reading as entertainment and not an intellectual discipline.... people aren't "motivated" to read and don't instinctively want to because most of the time, reading doesn't give you the dopamine rush that other forms of entertainment and content do. that means it's harder to feel like doing it and it doesn't feel effortless/ as entertaining as consuming other types of content. approaching it as an intellectual discipline makes a lot more sense since you stop having to feel like it in order to do it, and you stop expecting that it will give you that dopamine rush that other forms of content do. it becomes a consistent habit rather than just another form of entertainment.
