I was 14 and you swam 3 hours a day to drown out the noises of your teenage life and you were always so tired you replied “good morning” to my goodnight text at 5am when I was going to bed and you were waking up (we never woke up together).
I was 15 and you were my best friend and would walk 5 kilometres in the wrong direction just to talk to me some more and we played chess drinking your dad’s red wine and we always got caught and i’m sorry I couldn’t love you the way you loved me then (you haven’t changed in 10 years).
I was 16 and you were the new kid at school and god you ripped my heart apart every week then put it back together to the sounds of your guitar and I left you thinking that love was a competition of who could hurt each other more (you won, bravo).
I was 17 and we would share bottles of beer and sleep on your aunty’s couch and my parents were so angry because I wouldn’t go home for days but they didn’t realise that I was at home wherever I was with you (we abandoned that house).
I was 18 and I fell for you like a ton of bricks and I had to go away and I realised on an long haul flight that I loved you and when I told you, you flew to the middle of the ocean to meet me and when we jumped off a cliff into the water it felt like we would never hit the bottom (I'm sorry about your dad).
I was 20 and you kissed me and said you were taking me with you when you left the party and I only did it to forget about another boy but it’s been a year now and i’ve thought about you every day since that fucking 30 seconds on the dance floor and jesus fuck you’re toxic poison (I still dream about you, it’s fucked).
I was 22 and was scattered all over the world and had barely made it home when you were there right back where I’d started and we talked and kissed and it’s been months now and we just put fairy lights up in your room and it sorta feels like home (I have to go but i’ll be back). I was 23 and you weren’t there when I got back but it’s okay now because I fell in love with myself that time around (I drank a lot).
I was 24 and we met over merlot in the summertime and you told me you were a gemini and how you hated when people commented on it. you told me you loved me on the last day of the year and you meant it. I said it back (I meant it, too). I’m 25 and in love and it’s different this time. it’s steady and calm and filled with oxygen and light instead of one person peering into a room to see another person inside burning themself alive for attention. I wouldn’t set myself alight to keep you warm but I would collect wood from the forest to build us both a fire. I hope you stay in my life for a while.

Illustrations That Portray The Language of Love
While we may feel a plethora of emotions while being in love, not all of our emotions have the right hue of words to express the extent of our feelings. But Argentinian designer Jazmin Batista, through her series of illustrations, comes to our rescue.

pick your battles. pick… pick fewer battles than that. put some battles back. that’s too many
interesting how so many people will agree that “mothering is the hardest/most intense/most important job in the world” but the people who perform the work of mothering for money (daycare workers and nannies) are payed shit wages and nobody cares. it’s almost as if we glorify motherhood to convince women to have children but actually consider the gendered work of caretaking to be worth next to nothing.
