[TRANS] Go Younjung Post-Drama Interviews for Netflix Original Series <Can This Love be Translated?>
Compilation interviews
On January 23rd, Go Younjung meeting reporters for Netflix original series <Can This Love be Translated?> post-drama interview at a cafe in Jongno, Seoul. She also gifted reporters a whopping eight "Go Younjung Pick" egg tarts from a café she personally visited before the interview.
<Can This Love be Translated> is an unpredictable romantic-comedy drama that unfolds between a multilingual interpreter and a global sensation actress. Go Younjung played dual role of Cha Muhee and Do Rami (Cha Muhee's dissociative persona). Go Younjung's portrayal of Cha Muhee garnered critical acclaim, captivating viewers with her diverse portrayal of everything from sweet romantic roles to complex and pain-ridden characters.
About the drama
Regarding the drama, she said that it had a fairytale-like feel to it because it had so many romantic themes such as four-leaf clovers and the aurora. She also told the reporters that she loves watching <Coffee Prince> when the weather gets warmer, so she wish that <Can This Love be Translated?> can also be a work that people would think and watch when the cold winter blows. She hoped that the drama would be remembered as a fuzzy and warm drama.
About filming <Can This Love be Translated?>
The release happened a year after they finished filming so she wondered if she could remember anything about the filming during the promo, but when it happened, the memory came back so vividly. She has many photos from the time she filmed the drama and still has the keychains she bought during that time, so she reminisces about the fun she had back then. She added that looking at the photos and keychains felt like looking through summer and winter vacation diaries.
She also expressed her affection by saying that the filming was so exciting and beautiful and it felt like she lived in a fairy-tale. She was so immersed in the role that she felt like her life had become dull (after the filming ended) and she wanted to live as Cha Muhee just a little longer.
She added that the filming felt almost like a vacation. They were able to travel overseas and even improvise naturally on set because the atmosphere was so well-constructed. She shared that if someone was tired, they'd share snacks to cheer them up. "It was a warm atmosphere," she said.
About her decision accepting the drama
She decided to participate after reading the script up to the fourth episode. She found the meeting between an interpreter and actress interesting. As an actress, she found the realistic yet unrealistic story interesting. Usually when she receives a script for a project, she only receives the first part, and from then on she will have the same mindset as the viewers. She also found the project was fun but she felt burdened as she was given a bigger role. She thought that she had to do well in order for the viewers to receive the drama positively. Also, she emphasizes that she's not the type to be uncomfortable with new challenges, she rather approached it with excitement.
About portraying dual role in the drama
When she read about Do Rami in the script she thought that it's shocking yet refreshing and she has the urge to prepare better and do her best on portraying her. She said that even though Do Rami and Cha Muhee have different personalities, they have a common purpose in trying to protect Muhee. She explained that Cha Muhee protects herself by beating around the bush while Do Rami, on other hand, doesn't hold back and tends to look like she attacks other people first with her words so they wouldn't hurt Muhee. If Cha Muhee is a cautious and anxious person, Do Rami is a bit more free-spirited and expresses Muhee's hidden feeling like an interpreter.
About which character is the most similar with her between Cha Muhee and Do Rami
Go Younjung reveals that she's closer to Do Rami's personality in real life. She explained that she can't speak in an indirect way like Cha Muhee and isn't good at understanding it either. She even had a hard time understanding Cha Muhee's character, it took her a long time to analyze Cha Muhee's line and she needed to peel the layers of what Cha Muhee wanted to understand. On the other hand, Do Rami is a direct and refreshing character, so she thinks that she feels more comfortable and relates to Do Rami’s character.
About whether she sympathize with Cha Muhee's anxiety
She also interpreted character Cha Muhe as "a person who desperately craves recognition and hospitality, which makes her always anxious from the desire for her happiness to last long." She shared a few similarities with Cha Muhee by saying that although her anxiety isn't as high as Cha Muhee, she also sometimes gets anxious that her happiness might disappear.
She believes that happiness co-exist with anxiety. The higher level of satisfaction, the more she wants that situation or state to last. She didn't realize it in her early debut days, but as she gained more experience, her vision has been broadened and she has come to understand that her profession involved so many people, and that these people were the strength she needed in her work.
For the past three or four years, she has realized that even her own mistake, like if she's missing schedule due to health problems or made a slip of tongue or something like that, it would affect the work and even could have a negative impact. It was a profession where it can fall apart with just a single word or judgement. She had felt it strongly this time, too. It's not a matter of whether she's done filming so she don't need to mind the rest, but just like Muhee, she thought that have to do well so that everyone's happiness could be maintained. She thought that's why she has the same anxious as Cha Muhee, because she have to do well.
About her known as being nervous on public event and whether it has changed after playing a top star role
She laughed and shared that she went to an awards event not long ago (MAMA Awards in Hongkong) and told the reporter that they can see how she still hasn't changed at all. She explained that when filming, they filmed for a long time taking several takes, so she wasn't too nervous and was able to film well. In order to portray Cha Muhee's stardom, she would search up other celebrity videos. When she has a scene where Muhee meets and greets her fans at the airport she would watch Blackpink and Ive airport videos as reference. She commented that it looked like a different world which caused the reporters to laugh.
About the viewers reaction of her glamorous visual and her characters' fashion
She had thought that her hair, makeup, and outfit would attract some expectation and attention since the drama has that kind of setting, so she prepared a lot for it. She also expressed her gratitude to the staff and said that they prepared about 100 outfits for her roles and it made her realize how hard the stylist team worked. They even style her hair in various ways so she thinks that the viewers' attention means that the team's hard work has been recognized.
She said she's most satisfied with her look when she gets her makeup done at the salon. She told the reporter that her lips are swollen and oily when she wakes up in the morning. She also humbly responded to the public attention to her visual by saying that she was fortunate enough to fit the trendy and popular looks these days since beauty standards keep changing.
About her recent trip to Jakarta for the drama promotion
Go Younjung said that it left a lasting impression because she rarely encountered fans up close. The cheers that filled the venue were so overwhelming that she couldn't hear the staff tell her to move. After the promotion, she thought that actor Kim Seonho is really the Indonesian prince.
About acting in romantic-comedy genre
She honestly admitted she felt the pressure of the romance genre. Unlike fantasy genre where she just had to focus on creating extreme situations, with romance she has to act with more empathy because it's an emotion where all people have experienced at least once in their life. "It's not easy to delicately express emotions that everyone knows, It was harder than I thought," she said.
About whether writer Hong Jeongeun and Hong Miran have specific requests during their second collaboration
She shared that they did have some requests for individual scenes, but overall, they gave her encouragement and just wanted her to do well just like how she did in <Alchemy of Souls>. She added that she thought they trust her.
Go Younjung also described the writers’ work this time felt like a fairy tale, just like <Alchemy of Souls>. She thought that the charm comes from the writer's ability to create a charming worldview and make her feel like she's a character in a fairytale.
About whether she feel pressured about the drama become successful or failure
She said that rather than being obsessed with ratings, she just hopes that the viewers will enjoy the drama as much as she did and hope that the intentions she creates with the actors and the production staff are accurately conveyed.
About her swearing scene
She laughed and said that she didn't find the swearing scene difficult (referring to the scene in episode 11 where Cha Muhee exploded when an article about her ex-boyfriend surfaced online). She admitted that she wanted to be good at swearing and have fun, so she looked to senior actors who are good at swearing scenes, so she watched actor Hwang Jungmin's acting for inspiration.
About what is her other charms other than her looks (note : I personally didn't like how this question sound)
She began saying that she thought she was better at sport than she expected and added that she wants to do action in the future. She also said that she is actually a bit funny when she's with her close friend. She didn't know whether she could show it on screen through a variety show or a comedy drama, but she hoped that there would be an opportunity to show that side of her in the future. She also shared that when she was a student, she was good at everything that Jang Huisoo (her role in <Moving>) did like running fast, long jump, and arm wrestling. Although she couldn't run for a long time as her endurance wasn't great, she said that she had a good burst of speed.
About her hobby
She revealed that she likes baking. She told the reporter that she ate a lot of Dubai chewy cookies (marshmallow based chocolate with pistachio and kadayif filling). She even bought the ingredients and ordered the kadayif from overseas to make it herself. She shared some TMI that her order would arrive in February so she is still waiting and will make it as soon as it arrives.
She also said that she wasn't good at cooking, that's why she prefers baking. Cooking requires a sense like a touch while baking requires precise measurements and timing, she felt baking is a bit like an experiment and she found it easier than cooking. She then continued her rambling by, "In cooking, they say, 'Put in an appropriate amount of garlic,' but every household has a different spoon. 'Fry the meat until it's this color,' but the definition of appropriate is different for everyone. On the other hand, baking is clear. They will say to bake it at a certain temperature for 1 minute and 30 seconds."
About whether she shares her baked goods with others
Because she bakes alone, she sometimes gets tired of the butter smell. She adds that it would be nice if the scent of butter filled the house, but she doesn't really feel like eating them. So, since she is going to make them anyway, she's thinking of sharing them with others. She tends to make madeleines, scones, and cookies in bulk at once. The reason is because she teaches herself by watching YouTube videos and most of it doesn't calculate the amount for one person only, so she ended up with a lot of baked goods that she can't finish herself.
About her new image as a 'meme expert' through her challenge video
She has gotten used to watching shorts and reels, and after the Jakarta schedule ended earlier than expected, her staff recommended to do the Younjung-ah challenge. They showed her a reels from a video that said "Younjung-ah, you have to live up to your name" so she asked Kim Seonho to do it with her, and they filmed it. She added that she tried to do it exactly as it was, but Kim Seonho did it by flipping it left and right to match the symmetry, so they succeeded on the seventh try.
About her 10 years age gap with actor Kim Seonho
Go Younjung shared that she never thought much about their age. She admits that when they first met, actor Kim Seonho felt like a senior to her because he's been in the industry and did theater for so long. She was worried at first that they couldn't become close, but in order to bridge that gap she diligently opened up to him first by introducing him into memes, recommending trendy phrases among MZ generation and showing him Youtubers she likes. Because of that they naturally developed common interests. Thanks to that she didn't really feel the age gap difference.
About actor Kim Seonho's Instagram post caption and his previous interview that he might getting scolded by her
Go Younjung burst into laughter and answered that she didn't know why he was talking as if she was always scolding him and emphasized that she didn't talk like that. She added that she saw he only put the title <Can This Love be Translated?> as the caption on his post and told him that it's boring. He then asked her for advice and she advised him to reference some lines from the drama.
She then continued by saying that she and her hair and makeup team have been close since filming <Resident Playbook> and actor Kim Seonho had a hard time understanding their jokes and conversation at first, so she has been explaining to him the latest trend and jokes so that's maybe why he felt like she's scolding him.
About whether she felt fluttered by actor Kim Seonho during filming
Go Younjung said that there's definitely a time where she felt fluttered by him since they filmed a romantic drama even though she admits that she didn't remember the specific moment which caused the reporters to laugh. She even playfully asked them to just write that there's time she got fluttered. She continued by saying that adlibs also depend on good synergy. More than just harmonizing, the fact that Kim Seonho and her had such a good synergy from the beginning played a big part.
About her chemistry with actor Kim Seonho on set
She shared their friendship timeline and began by saying that they're a bit awkward in Japan. They filmed in Korea for three days and then went to Japan a week later. She felt like meeting Koreans overseas and everyone on the set started getting close. In Canada, they had a ton of lines. Kim Seonho even told her to memorize all 17 scenes in one day so they memorize it in three to four hours. After that, in Italy, they became much closer than they had in Canada.
She said that their chemistry is good to the point that she can do ad-lib and he would respond to it. She thought that their synergy was because they had the same sense of humor. She also shared that they discussed things together for the filming, and even if they didn't discuss prior to filming, they had prepared a lot of similar ideas. She added by saying that her chemistry with him felt like decorating a Christmas tree where each of them bought their own decoration and decorating the tree to make it even more extravagant. It was really a perfect fit, she said.
She also praised Kim Seonho's acting and said that she likes his acting because he looks so natural. She explained that he's strong when it's time to put some effort and let it go when it's time to let it go. She thought that it's harder to make someone laugh than to make them cry, but she said Kim Seonho is good at various acting styles. She said that it was nice to have the opportunity to watch and learn. She would observe and imitate him on set. She emphasized that she tried to emulate his acting by watching him play and have fun on set.
"Having such a great role model inspired me and gave me new ideas. Seeing someone with more than 10 years of experience in acting enjoying themselves on set made me think that I'd love to be able to enjoy acting like that in the future too," said Go Younjung.
About the differences between character Joo Hojin in the script and Joo Hojin portrayed by Kim Seonho
When she read the script, she thought that Joo Hojin seemed a bit more rational and decisive. Since most of the lines were written rather than spoken, he felt stiff. So what she prepared was to try to make this stiff character more expressive, and to make him more flexible. However, Kim Seonho's portrayal was a bit softer. The speech and intonation were much more affectionate. She thought he was a much warmer T-person than she had imagined.
About her Instagram account reach 10 million followers
She said that she found out late through people around her because she didn't check her social every day. She also admits that she has been hearing people around her saying that she will soon reach 10 million followers. She used to think that she might reach 10 million in the future if she keeps working hard, but it still feels amazing to her that it finally happened. She added that she's not the type to give meaning to things, but she started to give meaning to it because <Can This Love be Translated?> is a special work.
About her dating style in real life
She shared that she tends to be proactive in relationships, but not to the extent of going to find an ex to get back together like Muhee did. In real life she tries to love to the fullest and is proactive so she won't feel regret later and thinking like, "I should have done better back then."
Go Younjung also said that she preferred stable and affectionate people. She added that in real life her personality is closer to Ju Hojin than Cha Muhee, she's a bit awkward with expressing herself so she tends to match well with people who express themselves a lot.
About continues her hot streak with future works
Go Younjung smiled and said that she wants to show a variety of things in the future. When she looks at the projects of the seniors she respect and admire like Lee Byunghun, Jeon Doyeon, and Yum Jungah, she never gets tired of them. She said that they always come back with something new, but even when they have similar roles, there's always something distinctly different about the acting. She admits she wants to be an actress who the audience never gets tired of and she wants to constantly show new sides of herself.
About her upcoming project <We Are All Trying Here>
She said that she enjoyed watching <My Mister> and <My Liberation Notes> so much that she decided to trust the writer and follow her lead rather than worrying about how to present something. She shared that every character in the drama was three-dimensional, and the narrative felt rich. It felt like the character actually existed somewhere and each character is equally important in the drama. She gained the confidence that just being one of those many characters would be enough to make the filming enjoyable.
About her debut tv variety show appearance with <Manito Club>
She shared that she got the offer through her agency and thought that it was a well-intentioned show, so she filmed it for the third time and had so much fun.
About her taste in variety show
She said that her taste in variety was so diverse. She watches all kinds of variety shows such as <Physical: 100>, <Physical: Asia>, <Transit Love>, <I am Boxer>. In the past she enjoyed <We Got Married>, <2 Days 1 Night> and <Infinite Challenge>. She added that she didn't care about genre. She also watched <Culinary Class Wars>.
About her appearance in Chattering with Na Yeongseok
She said that she became close with Na PD through his shows which she appeared on for the promotional purposes. She added that she watched it often so she stopped being conscious of the camera. He also responded right in front of her so she became comfortable to the point that she forgot she was filming.
About director Shin Wonho who said that she speaks like a fifth-grader (during <Resident Playbook> promo era)
She could agree with him but she wants to grow. She tells the reporters that she thinks she could be a high-schooler next year and act like an adult the following year which drew laughter from the reporters.

JTBC's new drama <We Are All Trying Here> has confirmed its cast, starring Koo Kyohwan, Go Younjung, Oh Jungse, Kang Malgeum, and Park Haejoon.
<We Are All Trying Here> is a work that follows the search for peace in a person who is driven mad by jealousy and envy because he is the only one who cannot find his way out among his successful friends. With "anxiety" a universal emotion in modern life as its keyword, it is expected to be a drama that will turn on the "green light of life" for those who have stopped at the red light of worthlessness.
This work garners enthusiastic anticipation, marking the return of Park Haeyoung, the writer who created sensations with works like "My Mister" and "My Liberation Notes". Park Haeyoung's unique insight, channeling life's most profound emotions into the most sublime of prose, promises another sensational return, transcending the boundaries of "admiration" and "liberation" to explore the theme of "worthlessness."
Here, director Cha Younghoon, who has showcased warm humanism by capturing the extraordinary solidarity of ordinary people in works like "When the Camellia Blooms" and "Welcome to Samdalli," adds his delicate directing skills. Director Cha Younghoon's mise-en-scène, which embraces the characters' shortcomings with a warm warmth, and writer Park Haeyoung's profound prose promise a synergy that will warmly heal the harsh reality.
The cast is also exceptional. First and foremost, Koo Kyohwan, who has proven his unique and irreplaceable presence with his unique style, will make his first TV drama lead role. He will play Hwang Dongman, the only aspiring film director in the renowned film industry gathering "The Eight" who has yet to make his debut. Like an uninvited guest, he perseveres, concealing the anxiety that hovers around him with relentless ramblings and bravado.
Koo Kyohwan delivers a uniquely sensuous and individualistic performance that vividly portrays the struggles of Dongman, a "person in our lives" who struggles to conceal his worthlessness, yet whose tediousness is lovable even in his clumsiness. Also, it is expected to be a catalyst that lights a 'green light' of peace in the hearts of viewers by offering comfort with 'I am the same as you' to all of us who have stopped at the red light of anxiety.
Next, Go Younjung, a popular actress who keenly points out the emotional lines of characters even in a calm tone of dialogue, shows a new side by taking on the role of 'Byeon Eunah', a producer at the film company Choi Film, who is called 'Axe' for her sharp script reviews. Eunah dreams of a calm center that is unshaken in any situation, but in reality, she is a character who struggles with her own trauma and suffers nosebleeds whenever she experiences emotional overload.
Go Younjung delicately and densely expresses the self-destructive anger and fear of abandonment hidden behind the surface. In particular, Eunah's journey of healing her own wounds through Dongman, who appears to be a failure by the world's standards but is stronger than anyone else inside, and conversely, transforming Dongman's worthlessness into the most splendid value, coupled with Go Younjung's signature deep gaze, is expected to complete a meaningful "green light narrative."
Oh Jungse, who creates memorable characters with his wide acting spectrum, controls the tension of the drama as Park Kyungse, a director affiliated with the film company Gobak Film and a man entangled in a bitter love-hate relationship with Koo Kyohwan. Kyungse is a successful director who has directed five feature films, but after his latest film was a box office failure, he feels swayed by the "nothing" Dongman, and he suffers from a deep sense of inferiority.
Oh Jungse, feeling boundless anger at every word Koo Kyohwan utters, yet gritting his teeth to prove that he is in no way equal to him, portrays Kyungse's complex inner self with his signature control of tempo. Above all, the so-called "full-blown inferiority complex battle" between Dong-man and Kyungse is expected to add a delightful energy and hyper-realistic fun to the drama.
Kang Malgeum, a solid actress who captures the hidden layers of each character in each film, anchors the drama as Go Hyejin, the CEO of Gobak Film and wife of Park Kyungse. She runs a restaurant, the hideout of the eight members of the group, and possesses a generous heart that tolerates Koo Kyohwan's ramblings with detachment, yet also displays firm and direct leadership. Kang Malgeum's multifaceted portrayal of a realistic wife, ashamed yet silently supporting her husband, who goes berserk because of Dongman, is further enhanced by her strong-willed approach to mediating the conflicts that arise within the organic relationships of the group.
Park Haejoon, known for his bold performances in every film, adds depth to the drama as Hwang Jinman, Koo Kyohwan's older brother and former poet. He once wrote poetry, but after experiencing the ultimate incompetence and breaking down, he now cuts ties with the world and makes a living by working odd jobs. Park Haejoon delivers a restrained performance that captures Jinman's hollow inner self, a shadow of his family, dependent on alcohol and TV. The strange sense of kinship and pain he shares with his younger brother under the same roof is expected to resonate deeply with viewers.
The production team stated, the drama focuses on the process by which those who have been stopped by their worthlessness embrace each other's shortcomings and find their first breath of life." They added, "By transparently confronting the universal emotions of envy and jealousy without denying them, we hope to deliver both profound empathy and warm comfort to viewers." They added, "The stellar performances of Koo Kyohwan, Go Younjung, Oh Jungse, Kang Malgeum, and Park Haejoon, along with writer Park Haeyoung's insightful prose and director Cha Younghoon's warm gaze, will combine to create a magical moment where even life's most humble moments feel worthwhile."
It will air on JTBC and Netflix in the first half of 2026.
Go Younjung Introduces Character Cha Muhee at the Netflix Original Series <Can This Love be Translated?> Press Conference
Go Younjung attending the new Netflix Original Series <Can This Love be Translated?> Press Conference on January 13th, 2026 at the Chosun Palace Gangnam, Seoul, along with Director Yoo Youngeun and actor Kim Seonho
Go Younjung introduces her character, Cha Muhee, as an unknown actress who miraculously became a global sensation overnight. Cha Muhee met an interpreter at one point of her life who helps her interpreting foreign language and (also) trying interprets her love. Throughout the series, Cha Muhee is someone who try to adapts to a sudden and new environment, experiences a new love, and overcomes communication errors in love.
Go Younjung further explained that Cha Muhee feels happy about the sudden fame and describe it as a 'festival' in her life, but at the same time, she was feeling anxious because she didn't know when the festival will end. Go Younjung also added that expressing various emotions such as excitement, anxiety, and doubt about meeting new people are the focus of her acting this time.
About the 'interpreting' point between the main characters in the drama, Go Younjung explained that the interpretation focuses more on facilitating understanding and communication rather than delivering the literal meaning of the words themselves. She thought that communication between the two would be smoother if they tried to empathize and understand each other rather than just listening to each other's words literally.
Director Yoo Youngeun added more description to Cha Muhee character by saying that Cha Muhee is very transparent, emotionally honest, and speaks in a disorganized manner, yet very lovable, hence she is a character that is the complete opposite of Ju Hojin. Director Yoo Youngeun also said, "Cha Muhee is very dynamic compared to Hojin, so she did a lot first move and action. Go Younjung prepared in various ways which made her character look more rich. She also makes the chemistry between the two character lively, which is great. If you watch until the end, you will discover a charm of actress Go Younjung that you never seen before."
When asked about the reason why she cast Go Younjung as the main lead, Director Yoo Youngeun said that Go Younjung's innocence, loveliness, and chicness were all very well-suited with Cha Muhee character. She also said that Go Younjung did a lot of preparation for the character she played that it also made her feels fluttered.
About the chemistry between her and actor Kim Seonho in the drama, Go Younjung said, "I only have happy memories (during filming). I even thought about wanting to act like Kim Seonho when I've gained as much experience as him in the future, because he was really enjoy acting throughout the filming. The filming set has become a place where I learned a lot by watching him and follow his lead from the side."
As for actor Kim Seonho, he described Go Younjung as someone who has a great personality and not only friendly to the fellow actors but also with everyone on the set, he also said that she is the one opened up to him first. He added, "She's very good at acting, she also absorbs every word incredibly quick and has such a great sense. During the filming, she led the scene very well. Because Cha Muhee character is very dynamic while Hojin is more static, some action from her is important so that I can give a proper reaction, and she did so well with leading that it really help me (with the reaction)"
Actor Kim Seonho also tells the reporter about how they get close for the first time. He said that he once made a mistake during a filming, it was during a train scene filming in Japan, and they haven't gotten close at that time and barely speaking with each other. He did a mistake by getting of the train early and left her, she need to take another train to get back and it took about 30 minutes, but she just casually asking him "What are you doing?" without angry, and they start getting along since then.
Director Yoo Youngeun also shared that the crew has concern (about their chemistry) at first. They start filming in Japan just a week after the first filming, and they afraid that the actors' chemistry may not be there yet, but when the camera is rolling, they had such good chemistry that it make the staff feel relieved. She said, "Since then we started getting along better and better. It was really a fun shoot. You can see from the drama later, the chemistry between the two of them was the best, and we hope you look forward to it."
During the press conference, she also shyly tells the reporters that she saw aurora in Canada. Kim Seonho added that they saw the aurora on the road after filming and Go Younjung called him when he was sleeping in his car, she also called other staff to make sure everyone to saw the aurora. Go Younjung said that they saw it right after they finished filming for a scene where her character is supposed to saw aurora too.
At the press conference, actor Kim Seonho also said that since they have to film in different countries (Korea, Japan, Canada, and Italy) throughout the filming, the actors and filming crews have naturally became close as they can only rely on each other, they also would hang out and have a meals every day, they basically became family, to the point that when the filming ended it made his heart felt heavy and wanted to cry.
