I decided to rewatch Akira and now here are some of my sketches and scenes redraws (the third one is a joke, don’t take it too seriously).

Finally I can show my Pandora Hearts artwork. I got the inspiration by @lynnlyrae fanart, so I decided to draw my otp for the first time in nine years. 

Disclaimer: Everything I write is just my own interpretation.

 So, a little about work. Of course, my dream would be to write a normal analysis, but we'll have some raw ideas. In general in this art I'm trying to show the relationship between Jack and Lacie. All this storm and clouds are there to show that they're both doomed, and so is their relationship. At the same time, the work depicts a tea party, here I wanted to show that characters are trying to communicate as if nothing happens, ignoring the obvious nightmare unfolding right in front of them.

 They don't sit together, there is a table between them, and here I wanted to convey that the table acts as a dividing line. Lacie sits slightly closer to the table, leaning forward. She's actually much more interested than Jack in resolving this dividing line between them and truly revealing herself to the person she loves. Jack, on the other hand, sits a little further from the table and leans back in his chair. This shows that he prefers not to cross this symbolic line and is trying to distance himself from any real closeness with Lacie. Both of them look at each other, the table and the food on it do not interest them, but neither of them dares to cross the line that separates them for their own reasons (this is one of the reasons why they are so doomed).

 I also don’t know if I managed to convey this, but I tried to make Jack sit more confidently and beautifully, since he is naturally very charismatic and knows how to manipulate people, and Lacie, on the contrary, sits in a less confident pose, plus she is slightly hunched over. Here I wanted to convey that Lacie is actually quite reserved and not very charismatic as a person, and doesn't really know how to connect with others. Like, yes, as a memory and an vision (not sure for this word, I’m not native English speaker), she was very mysterious, interesting, and mesmerising, but the real Lacie, who is just a person, seems to be completely different. Plus here Jack is sitting calm and smiling, because he finally found Lacie and they are near each other, but Lacie is in pain, because she knows that she will die soon, plus she will never be able to muster up the courage and open up to the person she loves (but here I am also not sure if I conveyed the emotions well).

Want to show some super old Mikoko sketches

First one is with child version of Mikoko, where she is drawing something

But I decided to crop it because I don’t like how her hands turned out

Second is a sketch with my old high school au where Mikoko, Kazuya and Kaiji where studying different types of liberal arts

So actually it’s not only Mikoko here, there are Kaiji and Kazuya too, but I cropped them because I don‘t like how I drew them

I have some kind of permanent thoughts and ideas in Akabayashi

And it always seemed hilarious to me:

Like how much of tremendous fighter and generally terrifying person Akabayashi was when he was younger?

I mean cruel criminal yakuza gang told to a guy who works on them something like: «Ahahah it’s ok, it doesn’t matter that you failed to do a basic task, turns out you are human after all, thanks God!». They aren’t angry or something they are kind of relieved???

And Akabayashi has his status in the underworld mostly only because of his force, he doesn’t have any kind of powerful family members, he is just a guy, so I mean this situation depicts the scale of how much insane, cruel and strong he was

Besides I want to mention that yeah Akabayashi is very good at fighting and stuff + he’s (or better say definitely was) some kind of violence addict, but he is also good at lying and making schemes of sort (example of such situation: when Akabayashi took down organisation where he was working before Awakasu)

Sometimes I think about Akabayashi. Yes, even though I'm not in the Durarara fandom right now, and won't be for a long time, I often return to this character in my thoughts.

One day I'll write a complete analysis of Akabayashi, as his character and my hyper-fixation on him deserve it, but today I just want to write a quick thought.

Akabayashi and his story are the best takedown of toxic masculinity + demonstration of healthy love I've ever seen. I really like how love is Mizuki's primary driving force in becoming a better person. And I like how there is no real love story or some kind of rescuing relationship trope there, Sayaka rejected him at their first meeting and died soon after. He doesn't seek reciprocation from Sayaka. Akabayashi accepted the rejection immediately, but his feelings force him to see his problems and try to change for the better, to do the right thing, that's just how his understanding of love works. Yes, in the end, Mizuki still can't be called a good person, but he has grown a lot.

Overall, Akabayashi's arc, where he rejects toxic masculinity and chooses healthy love, is brilliantly written down to the last detail. I'm not going into it right now, but I plan to write about it someday, because to make understandable why this is the best takedown of toxic masculinity in my opinion, I need to write complete Akabayashi's character + story analysis. I don't know how Narita wrote it, but he definitely understood something about life, as it's written very thoughtfully.

So now I want to show a bad quality sketch

In this sketch I wanted to explore Sophie’s and Kazuya's relationship a bit according to my own interpretation. I want to show that Kazuya loves his mother much, but he feels uncomfortable with her because of the incident on the yacht. However, Kazuya has never mentioned this to Sophie. Sophie, on the other hand, understands that her son's behavior has changed, so she worries and tries to gently ask him what's going on, but unfortunately it doesn’t work. Plus, she doesn't understand the true nature and scale of the problem, which only complicates the situation.

A bit of context for the art. Beatrice was not born on Earth, she was also from Euclydia, but instead of the space between the worlds, she came directly to Earth. She is mesmerized by the other worlds, and she, like Bill, is obsessed with building a portal. But no matter how much Beatrice dreams of leaving earth, she is just as afraid to see her own dimension. Not as afraid to see it destroyed by her own hands as that there is someone who still alive.

Talking about Rang spinoff again

I just wanted to mention one thing about the first episode when he meets Mang Tae

Did Rang though about his own mother when he saw a mother that is angry at her child? I suppose that Rang understands that she loves her son but is just tired, but with this I assume that he remembered his own childhood and mother too. And it has sense because the spinoff is about Rang’s family and to mention the theme of mother is a good decision.

And actually I love this spinoff because here we can see casual Rang. In the main series there are not many casual moment with this character, but in the spinoff we can see how Rang behaves in everyday life. Plus I want you to mention that I like decision to put grandpa Mang Tae character in the show because I like to see more characters from Korean folklore in this series and it’s interesting to see that Rang has some kind of casual connections with other mystical creatures.

Finally I want to mention that I personally like that spinoff is all about everyday life because I think that main show was better when it focused on everyday life things not global conflict. But this spinoff is so short…

I like how all the instructions Rang gives to Yuri are meant to be followed only if she's comfortable with them. Like, "Yeah, don't kill Shin-Joo, be friendly with him. But if you don't like the way he looks at you, then gouge his eyes out (literally) hahaha."

And yeah Shin-Joo doesn’t deserve that, but that's not the point here ahahah

Ugly 5 minutes sketchy (and I hope funny) comic about this found family

It’s interesting that when it comes to his brother Yeon's emotional intelligence level is zero. I mean, he hasn't been able to have a normal conversation with his brother for six hundred years. Every time in the show when these two meet, Yeon says the opposite of what needs to be said. What I mean is that every time they meet, Yeon makes clear to his brother that he doesn't love him, even though that's not actually true. Even at that scene in the forest, when Yeon came to save Rang, he was able to tell his brother that very phrase that resolves the conflict only at the very last moment. Before this, even when his brother asked him direct questions like, “Why do you save me?” he would answer with some sarcastic nonsense. And the point is that after a minimal normal conversation, the conflict was resolved. All Yeon had to do was to tell his brother something like this: "Yes, I understand that I abandoned you and almost killed you, but you have slaughtered an entire village as a revenge for a forest fire, and you were sentenced to death for it. I intentionally wounded you non-fatally. If someone else had come, you would have definitely died." But he hasn't been able to say that for six hundred years. And even from a logical point of view, it doesn't make much sense, since if Yeon had made peace with his brother earlier, he would clearly have more peaceful life, and that even would have helped him protect Ji Ah.

And regarding Yeon constantly saying he didn't abandon Rang, he may believe it himself, but it's not true. At the time of the forest fire, Rang is still a child (the exact age is not given, but he looks about ten years old), and at the moment when Yeon comes to him to carry out the sentence, Rang is already a teenager (I think about 15-16 years old). And I don’t know how half-foxes grow up in the lore of this series, but let’s assume that they grow like people, and 5-6 years have passed. When they meet, Yeon claims he couldn't find his brother. Seriously? Firstly, he ended up finding him to carry out the sentence. Secondly, he works for a clairvoyant guardian of the afterlife, she didn’t have the ability to find the child? In my opinion, this all sounds like a poor excuse.

In the end, I think this: Yeon loved his brother to a certain extent, but not that much. And he doesn’t understand at all that if he tells his brother one thing, then Rang will understand exactly that, and not read the opposite between the lines. This is difficult even for a person with a healthy psyche, and Ran does not have such an advantage. He was severely abused by his mother, then abandoned to death by her, and then he believed his brother had done the same. With such trauma, he certainly wouldn't understand from context that the phrase "I'm sorry I saved you when you were a child" could mean anything other than a complete lack of love.
