Tracey Emin, one of Britainâs most celebrated contemporary artists, is taking over New Yorkâs Times Square this month. Every night at 11.57pm, 15 of the squareâs digital billboards will light up with Eminâs moving work âI Promise to Love You,â comprised of six written messages. The words, made of neon lights in Eminâs handwriting, slowly illuminate to spell out statements of love, with the electric pulsing building to a red when the clock strikes midnight. via The Edit

Robert Montgomery works in what he calls âa poetic and melancholic post-Situationist traditionâ. Of detournement, actually, which he interprets by replacing advertisements with his own poetry. He is also known for creating a series of ârecycled sunlightâ pieces that combines neon lights and solar cells into poetic sculpture.
For those in Istanbul, one of his works is traveling around the city as part of the 12th Istanbul Biennial.
Chicago
Amazing pictures of Chicago from Hapsical. I would really love to see all this amazing architecture in person, especially the Frank Lloyd Wright houses!
Mémoires, Guy Debord & Asger Jorn
Détournement and "The Spectacle"
"The spectacle epitomises the prevailing model of social life. It is the omnipresent celebration of a choice already made in the sphere of production, and the consummate result of that choice. In form as in content the spectacle serves as total justiïŹcation for the conditions and aims of the existing system."
--The Society of the Spectacle, Guy Debord
Any elements, no matter where they are taken from, can be used to make new combinations. The discoveries of modern poetry regarding the analogical structure of images demonstrate that when two objects are brought together, no matter how far apart their original contexts may be, a relationship is always formed. Restricting oneself to a personal arrangement of words is mere convention. The mutual interference of two worlds of feeling, or the juxtaposition of two independent expressions, supersedes the original elements and produces a synthetic organization of greater efficacy. Anything can be used.
