@gracehillbroken
Grace sat in the rec room writing in her journal when she felt someone come up behind and read from over her shoulder. She turned and looked up at the person laughing, "Do you mind?"
"Oh wonderful. A child with a wider vocabulary. Thatâs fucking awesome.â Evelina snorted, crossing her arms. âUm, who? We can go punch them together.â
" I'm sure it is." Grace smirked before sighing. "The entire population of this place except for you obviously."
"Wait, what?" Evelina turned away from the person she was speaking to and looked down at the younger blonde, sighing and rolling her eyes. "I wasnât even talking to you. Obviously I wouldnât punch a child.â
"I know, I was just fucking with you. That's a first, most people in this place wouldn't care if I was a kid." Grace said shrugging.
"Did I actually hear that come out of your fucking mouth? If so, you deserve my fist, in your teeth.â
"Would really punch a little girl?"
"The front?â She asked sternly before hearing the voice of a little girl call out to the man. Her eyes met the girlâs and for a couple of seconds Nev examined her, checking to see if she was of any threat to her, âMore children?â She asked the man before shaking her head and taking her rightful place in the front. She looked back at the many children, the blonde little girl and the man, and nodded, her face hard and cold, âCâmon.â She said as she began to walk.
'The front,â he affirmed, just as sternly as sheâd parroted it back to him. True, from what heâd learned of her thus far, she was far from accustomed to this sort of fray, to being given orders. Perhaps he shouldâve done well to take that into account, but with the lives of children in their hands, maybe he could be forgiven for such an absence of thought. Breaking upon their conversation, his gaze snapped to the little voice approaching quickly, physically heaving relief in the sigh of his shoulders. The young ghost had managed to escape the horrors of the basement and with two other children in town, though he bristled at the demonessâ tone. Stooping low, he cupped the girlâs shoulders, squeezing sundry confidences into them. âDonât mind her. You did well, sweetheart. Really well.â Offering her a barely there smile, he spoke this next bit as softly as he could to prevent the other children from overhearing. âYouâre going to need to keep being strong, alright? I know ghosts have empathic abilities far greater than the rest. Why donât you try and use them to keep the children calm?â His eyes flashing with a certain firmness, he then rose upright again, guiding her to the center of their little troop. Catching the womanâs detached beckoning, he nodded back and encouraged the children to follow behind her with a soft nudge to the back of the boy at the end just in front of him. âWe need to get them outside,â he called to the woman at the front, his steps measured as his entire being kept on alert. âYou can feel it, canât you? The .. the roomâs open and theyâre taking over the facility. Weâll have a better chance outside. Maybe have the girl usher them into the chapel for the time being.â
Grace felt a bit self conscious by how the other girl studied her. She eased up when she felt the man's hands on her shoulders. "Thank you." Grace said grinning. "I can try, I've never really done it on more then one person before but... I'll try my best." Grace said before turning to the rest of the children, still listening to the man and women's conversation.
"I ju-" She looked in the direction of the doors to the basement. Demons were flying in and out of there and up and down the hallways like there was no tomorrow. She could hear the screams of people getting closer and closer to herâ to themâ- as she stalled in the moment. The girl really didnât want to, but she needed safety, she knew that. So she agreed for the moment, "Fine." She said breathlessly as she looked at the child who peered at her.Â
There wasnât any missing the clear hesitance in the demoness. Ezra held no notions that she was in any fashion sympathetic to his plight or the very real terror at his back making the children behind him quiver. Any other circumstances and he would have dismissed her completely, but he needed all of the help he could get, even the begrudging kind. Nodding sharply, he wasted no time in clarifying. âYouâre older than me, stronger than me. Iâll need you at the front. Iâll guard the rear.â His tone brokered no argument and he quickly scanned his surroundings for the little blonde ghost heâd tasked with her own duties.
Grace searched the crowded hallway with the other two kids she has helped for the man who had instructed her to do so. When she was about to give up looking for him her eyes landed on him speaking with another women. She approached the pair quickly, "Hey mister! I did what you asked of me, I retrieved other children just as you asked." Grace said to him before studying the women.
The young ghost looked around the crowd, she was no longer scared because of the man she had spoken to in the basement.
"Absolutely. Did you go out and get it when people were allowed to shop or did someone get it for you?"
"An older girl got it for me."
 "Thatâs a beautiful dress,"
"Isn't it though?"
Grace giggled as she twirled around in her dress for the ball tonight. One of the older girls had bought it for her when buying their own dress and she simply adored it.
I sure can. What size are you?
Well, I'm a small in women's height wise but a medium kids in like width size...
