Final Project Artist Statement

I found the concept of this project to be the most difficult of all of the projects for the semester. To sum up the point of being an artists in an image was very hard for me. It took me multiple attempts, all unworthy and  in the end not at all what I had hoped it to be. It felt like thinking about breathing which in turn makes me breathless, or a little bit like laying in bed at 2AM questioning the massive space of outer space and the unlikeliness that we would be the only concious beings in the entirety of the universe. This project made me feel the urgenency and the impossibility of all of these things. Beautiful and unreachable, something I plan on meditating on every time I draw, paint, sculpt or write from here on out.

"Rats Nest" 2014 ; Lindsey Bain ; Marker

This project is called "Future Soup" In perfect execution, I would be wearing a wedding dress ( The one I was planning on wearing didn't fit) and I would have better video quality to emphasis the symbols used. I cracked eggs and put pieces of my hair into a bowl, the theme was intended to be an ode to the future. I do feel like the lack of the wedding dress symbol looses a piece of the intention of the performance piece. I learned that even in a room alone by myself, cutting my hair and cracking eggs made me feel very vulnerable. I can not even image doing this in a room full of people.

Roselee Goldberg : Performance : A Hidden History : 

While reading Goldberg's Performance : A Hidden History , I was surprised that the emergence of Performance Art was so centered on social protest against the current structure of Art. Of course after reading this article, I realized that this is why Performance art is so beautiful and so terrifying. It's such a vulnerable thing to do but also it defies all structure of the typical Art Mediums.

Project 4  

For this project I used projection images of people. I obviously had a hard time with the time restriction to the project, I tried over and over again to use a layer of sound with images, but like a lot of other people have mentioned, it's hard to get anything out in 1 minute and this song is as necessary as the images to it.  Also, Adobe Premiere is awesome! and overwhelming , Every time I thought I was getting a gist of what I could do, I would discover something else.

Time and Motion

“Art has always been an attempt to cheat or at least outlive death; to secure some record of presence that would fill in for the real absence of the deceased.” And at the end of the day, isn’t this the whole point of what we are all doing?  This weeks readings remind how lucky and exciting of a time it is to be an artist. Right now we are able to document our human experience in ways that we never have before. There are no limitations to just one image or a series of still images to express an artist’s intended message anymore. Time and Motion and sound and light can all be easily reproduced, arranged and shared in a way that was unimaginable even at the birth of Cinema.
