I'm Gramckode an artist from Venezuela 🇻🇪 You may hear a lot about us Venezuelans these days.
Things here are pretty difficult in all the ways. I have been unemployed since September 2025 and currently doing commissions is the only way I have to help my family with bills.

I asked the artist to choose a favorite scene in the fic and they put up a couple of options they were interested in and asked me which I liked best, so between the two of us we went for the scene on the way back from the symphony date. Where they both start talking about tragic backstories.
Reminder, this is an AU where Kara is a nephilim rather than a Kryptonian.
Since AO3 preview links don't seem to be working, I made the picture a link (hopefully, will test when I post) but also here's a basic text link.
Hope Shadows - Chapter 5 - Uncovered History
Scene snippet below:
"My sister was the first person I saw when I came to the World, and then I passed out."
"Why not send you to Earth before the end?" Lena asked.
"It's harder for us to hide here. My soul stands out among humans."
Kara's normal bright smile was small and guttering and she was making herself small in the seat next to her. Lena ached to reach over and hug her, but she was in traffic and had to watch the road.
"I'm sorry. I don't mean to bring the mood down. The symphony was beautiful. I just..." She stopped and sighed helplessly as she met Lena's eyes.
"If you don't want to talk about it, I can change the subject." Lena said. "If you feel like you need to, I'm listening."
"Thank you. I'll return the favor when you need it." The nephilim smiled brightly at her.
"I'd hope so, I understand that's a proper girlfriend thing to do." Lena laughed lightly as she clicked over the turn indicator.
"When people talk about the Garden of Eden, they almost always mean paradise. But the Garden I grew up in was watching angels fight while your guardians tried to keep you hidden. Watching...losing friends," She looked out of the window as the city passed by and she saw the souls of humans and the occasional supernatural flit by. "This place isn't perfect. But it's paradise to me."
"I can see why you'd feel that way. You probably never want to go back."
"I couldn't if I wanted to." Kara turned back towards Lena and pushed herself back up in the car seat a bit. "The Garden's gone. So's the Pit. Most Garden Angels and Pit Demons are dead. There's only a few of us survivors here and there."
"Can I ask what started the war?" Lena asked.
Kara shrugged and shook her head. "I know Michael and Lucifer had an old grudge and decided to settle it. Things got messy. Humanity got caught in the crossfire. Some angels broke ranks to protect us... I mean humanity. Things got messier. Some angels and humans working together had kids like me. That's forbidden, so then there was nothing but mess."
They drove in silence for a few minutes before Kara spoke again. "I want to be what people think angels are. Not what angels actually are."
"You're doing an excellent job of that. Though I might be biased." Lena smiled at her before looking ahead to see the parking lot to Kara's building and looked up and down the street before turning into the lane and then up into the parking lot. "And here we are."
A few minutes later they were sitting on Kara's couch, evening gowns set aside in exchange for pajamas taken from the nephilim's wardrobe of clothing racks. Kara leaning back into Lena as they both cuddled into a corner of the couch, some light jazz playing in the background and drinking glasses of line.
"You don't actually get drunk, do you?" Lena asked with a smirk running her free hand through Kara's hair.
"Not without working at it really hard." The nephilim said with a laugh.
"That's hardly fair." Lena responded lightly, her hand sliding down to hug around Kara's shoulders, the blonde's own free hand reaching up to lie on hers.
Kara suddenly groaned and reached up to cover her face with her palm. "Oh, I'm so stupid. You must think we're so hypocritical."
Lena's smile joined a confused expression as she looked down into her girlfriend's face. "I'm not quite sure I follow that logic."
"My family got all protective about your brother killing angels," Kara said. "And here I am talking about how bad a lot of angels are."
Lena took a long drink of her wine and sighed. "I guess it's my turn to unburden myself."
"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to step on anything." Kara sat up and turned around on the couch to face Lena as the other woman closed her eyes and waved her hand in front of her to dismiss the concern.
"It's fine. In vino veritas and music soothes the soul," she leaned back to point toward the stereo behind her. "Are you ready for this?"
"I..." Kara bit her lip and took a deep breath and reached out to place her hand over Lena's. "I don't know what you'll say, but I'm ready to listen."
"Thank you." Lena said, taking another sip and steadying herself. "I used to idolize my brother. He was brilliant. He was charming. He listened to my ideas and encouraged my studies. He made me feel welcome in the house."
"What do you mean he made you feel welcome?" Kara asked cautiously.
"I'm adopted," Lena explained. Then she shrugged slightly and looked up toward a corner of the room. "Or at least that's what I was told."
"Why would they tell you that you were adopted if you weren't?" Kara asked, face scrunched up.
Lena smiled briefly and caught Kara's eyes. "Because Lionel Luthor had an affair, and that's where I come from." She took a sip. "I don't know if they ever realized I learned that."
"Oh." Kara said, sucking in her breath through her teeth and set her glass down on the table. "That's...ah. Awkward."
"At the very least," Lena said. "There were a lot of little things that built up. I got out when I was eighteen, lived off my inheritance from my father. Then my mother thought she found a way to bring me back under her thumb."
Kara rose up onto her knees and leaned forward. Lena handed over her empty glass and Kara set it off to the side. Then she leaned forward and placed her hands on Lena's shoulders. Lena took a breath and reached up to grip one of those arms.
